Milwaukee landlord reduces rent to $100/month to help his tenants

John Zutz, the owner of a three-family home, told WISN-TV he wanted to help where he can.

"I see what's happening inside the world, in the country, and I realize there's going to be a lot of people out of work, and they need help," Zutz said. "I'm not sure if (my tenants) need it or not. That's the point. They may not need it, but I encourage them, if they don't need it, to spend the money in the neighborhood."

Tenant Cai Logan told the station he does need the help because the virus has cut his income in half.

The reality is that soon - probably by May 1st. - millions of people will be unable to pay their full rent or mortgage...not to mention car payments, insurance, credit cards, etc., etc.

Disaster.

From ours I'd expect a "The coronavirus is affecting us all in ways we never imagined, that said, we remind you that rent is due promptly, in full on the first of the month, a late fee will be levied on the fifth day and eviction will be commenced in x days if not paid. Stay healthy, stay safe, and wash your hands!"

... be exempt from losing out on income????? I hope some mechanism evolves to shame landlords that insist on their rent on time. Although some municipalities/states are decreeing delays. Can they do that???

As long as the emergency continues, they cannot be evicted for non-payment of rent.

There are some programs out there that help out people who have trouble paying their mortgages, which of course is good, but renters are often left on their own. I'm glad there are landlords like Mr. Zutz out there.

If there's a mortgage on the rental property, there's a clause in it which allows the bank to go directly to the tenant to collect rent and apply it to the loan if the landlord misses a payment.

I haven't seen Bank of America or any other banks giving a moratorium on mortgage or car payments.
