Northeast Ohio answers call to make masks during coronavirus: Here's how to help

Posted Mar 22, 2020

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ohio makers have responded to the call to make fabric masks for healthcare professionals during the coronavirus crisis.

Pins & Needles, a sewing store with locations in North Olmsted, Middleburg Heights and Mayfield Heights, on late Saturday posted a YouTube video with instructions. By Sunday at 1 p.m., more than 60,000 people had viewed it.

“They’re just going up by the minute,” said Connor Brostek, whose family owns the store.

The Facebook group for mask-makers has nearly 2,000 members.

The store says it’s been asked to make 10,000 masks in three weeks. But Jan Brostek hopes to make a million.

I never got the sewing talent that my mother and grandmother had.

My grandmother was a tailor. I donated my mother’s sewing machine when she died, wish I’d kept it.

My grandmother could sew and crochet, as well as my mother.

I can remember as a child, my grandmother "trying" to teach me how to sew, such a patient woman that gave up trying to teach me.

I have a sewing machine and will watch some Youtube videos.

Thanks for the Kick.

No sewing machine, but surely they can’t be that hard to sew by hand.

I never got the talent of my mom or gran, but I CAN sew, lol. Perhaps I’ll improve with practice.

It seems that everyone is saying something different to use.

I'll have to do more research.
