... Writing in capital letters in a tweet late on Sunday, Donald Trump said: We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself. At the end of the 15-day period of White House guidelines to enforce social distancing and other measures which began a week ago, on 16 March we will make a decision as to which way we want to go.
Mike Pence, who heads the White House coronavirus taskforce, said earlier in the day the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would issue guidance on Monday meant to allow people already exposed to the coronavirus to return to work sooner.
The consequences of this national shutdown, apart from any pandemic, are dire and will not be materially alleviated by any stimulus and [government] spending, tweeted Tom Fitton, a conservative commentator known to influence the presidents thinking. The only stimulus that will work is opening America back up for business.... The surgeon general, Dr Jerome Adams, urged Americans to stay indoors on NBCs Today show Monday morning. I want America to understand this week its going to get bad, he said. We really need to come together as a nation
we really really need everyone to stay at home.

(11,885 posts)By lying claiming things HE knows is untrue. Promoting putins propaganda, and ignoring public safe practices, and guidelines. He's caused this to be worse, spread more, incited others against the Chinese, dragged his feet helping, by claiming its a hoax? Just like this stimulus , they'll get an agreement made in the House and Senate, then he'll interfere claiming something that's bs , when it'll be something helping him, not us. Democrats need to tell him to go to hell, but trump is sadistic and watch more die, and financially suffer. Trump doesn't give a dam about others, and only cares about himself and how to lie promoting himself, and propaganda for Putin.

It's time for the strait jacket. If yesterday pitiful rant isn't enough, this should sort it out.

(15,286 posts)hard data.
The last info from PA Dept of Health showed about 10% of all tests came back positive.
Statewide, there are 479 cases of COVID-19 reported from commercial, hospital and state labs. There are 4,964 patients who have tested negative, and two total deaths
By my arithmetic that's a total of 5441 making the rate of infection of symptomatic individuals about 9%.
In MontCo, which is kind of the "epicenter" in PA, the rate of infection of symptomatic individuals is about 16% (110 of 680) with another 145 residents registered for tests. At 16% that would add another 23 confirmed cases.

(15,286 posts)without data? I get that the lack of testing had lead to a lot of this, but I would like to know what assumptions are being made in the models and what on what hard data they are based.
I live in an area that should be ripe for covid-19, lots of 65+ residents with a lifetime of breathing whatever was belched out of the smokestacks of our many mills. Business has pretty much been as usual. There are some precautions and people are generally being careful, but people are out grocery shopping, etc. Yet there are only 3 cases and this after a "drive through" site was set up about a week ago and another a few days ago. Where are the comparisons between counties like mine and the ones where there are a number of cases? Even in Montgomery County, which is the state's hot spot, the cases are concentrated in two municipalities. Why? This is the kind of data and analysis we should have when trying to make decisions.

(9,287 posts)Without data. There is no quote of mine extant in the annals of the World Wide Web where I would have ever written that. I believe and have written quite the opposite. I prefer to listen to scientists and epidemiologists who believe they need more data before undoing restrictions. The point is they cant answer the question of hotspots but we do know that we will be catching up to Italy soon. Spain is seeing the wave crash there. Why?
The point is that Orange Plague 45 has enough data because and I predict we will see restrictions lifted and we will all be the guinea pigs soon.
