There was a short discussion of this on msnbc just a bit ago. Have to admit, I had not thought of that.

And yes, They must boost his ego. Each one seems to get longer where Trump blabs and blabs all about his polls, complains and cry. etc etc.
And all who are standing on stage--all brag up how wonderful he is doing. over and over. Yup=bigly ego boost for the crybaby

2. They won't fill the void the rallies do. He's not facing brainless, breathless acolytes

and cult followers at these things. There's no cheering and screaming and fainting idiots. He's facing a lot of angry, glaze-eyed serious reporters who aren't fooled by the show.

It might be a cheap substitute, but since it won't gratify him it wouldn't surprise me if they began to diminish in number or he turns them over the Pence.

The other obvious thing is that it's apparent he doesn't enjoy them.
