White House hits CNN, MSNBC for cutting away from coronavirus briefing

White House hits CNN, MSNBC for cutting away from coronavirus briefing
By Justine Coleman - 03/23/20 08:42 PM EDT

The White House hit CNN and MSNBC for cutting away from Monday evening's coronavirus briefing from President Trump and his administration.

White House spokesman Judd Deere called it “pretty disgraceful” that the networks, which have been regularly criticized by the president, did not show the entire White House briefing on the pandemic sweeping the country.

Fox News also cut away from the Monday briefing but only just before it ended.

A CNN spokesperson responded to Deere’s tweet in a statement: “If the White House wants to ask for time on the network, they should make an official request. Otherwise we will make our own editorial decisions.”

An MSNBC network spokesperson said the network aired the briefing for more than an hour before cutting away "because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health."

Several people have criticized the administration’s daily coronavirus briefings for allegedly spreading misinformation and urged news networks not to show them live.

the standard for printed media is that right upfront you provide the who, what, why, when and where information in summary then use the rest of the time to fill in those details. you get a few minutes to tell us why we should bother or you're cut

He talks about the virus for a couple of minutes, then launches into a self aggrandizing campaign rally speech for the rest of the hour.

He can't campaign to those who aren't his followers any other way that doesn't cost him.

He gets an hour a Day to campaign to the non follower crowd and doesn't even have to spend dime.

It's a con, like every other single thing he does. Obviously he is getting away with it and gloating over it.....

The sad thing, is that all the network channels don't do exactly the same cutting away if he doesn't have anything else to offer about the Virus.......

He does this at all the G7 and other gatherings, walking in late to every meeting or dinner after everyone is seated and the function has already begun. "Look at me! I'm a celebrity! You are so fortunate to have me here."

None of his pressers have to be carried live. It's not a call-in show. Record the event and edit it to cut out the fat.

Anyway, I thought Pence was supposed to be leading the corona virus task force. Why is Fat Donnie even at the briefing? I know, he craves attention since he's not holding rallies. Well, fuck it, let him hold his rallies. Stuff the arenas to the ceiling. Get all the MAGAts infected at the same time. #CullTheHerd

people might tune in, but his daily chinwag always reverts of one subject: Himself. We don't want to hear his daily pity party about how tough he's had it as "president", and his unwarranted and dangerous prescription drug advice. The daily corona virus updates should be about just that, the corona virus, and not blathering on for two hours about anything that pops into his feeble mind. He shouldn't even be there! The Doctors and CDC personnel are the only people who should be on that stage. If he insists on being there, his political bullshit should never be broached. Never!

news. I think she said CBSN, their streaming news service, would have the full press conference.

One local NBC affiliate carried its local news even while the press conference started. Another NBC affiliate in another city didn't do local news, carried the press conference instead. ABC affiliate went with local news. The CBS affiliate I usually watch for local news and then CBS evening news had switched to the press conference from local news as soon as it began, but then, as I said, O'Donnell pre-empted Trump for the evening news.

They need to stop giving his idiot pressers any live coverage, period. They can always do recaps if there is anything really newsworthy, rather than Trump meandering through misinformation and congratulating himself.

Hope they stick to this policy.

If trump wants the adulation of campaign gatherings, let him foot the bill for the Hitler rallies he was having---let several thousand of his brainless followers gather in close, sweaty, hard-breathing proximity to one another, maybe with a few beer-drinking clusters, afterwards. Sounds like a plan, provided we can ID the attendees and avoid them afterwards like, well, the plague.....
