From the article:
Behold the moment when the Trump political cult turned into a death cult:
Tucker, no one reached out to me and said as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren, and if thats the exchange, Im all in, and that doesnt make me noble or brave or anything like that.
I just think there are lots of grandparents out there in this country like me, I have six grandchildren, that what we all care about and what we love more than anything are those children, and I want to live smart and see through this, but I dont want the whole country to be sacrificed, and thats what I see.

How exactly does one read this? Either the Texas Governor really is that ignorant of the facts, or he hopes GOP voters are.

(42,641 posts)Like Trump himself, these sociopaths can speak the language of patriotism, and sacrifice, but speak is all that they do,

(42,641 posts)Well, no, he does not. It is up to other people, people not named Dan Patrick, to make this sacrifice.

(42,641 posts)This sacrifice is for others to make. Patrick is far too important to the Texas economy to sacrifice himself.

(3,705 posts)We all die. It is the unresolved reality of humanity.
Every death is different; every death is singular even when masses go together.
If an elderly priest says "leave me, save the young", so be it perhaps noble in dying.
If a grand parents wishes to remain with the grand kids, so be it equally in living.
We do not all choose to kill.
The killing frenzy of the regressive-republican-conservative-tribe is frightening.

(4,981 posts)He actually let that be recorded to video. At least he let the public know what a worthless piece of shit he is.
Hes given up on doing his job and is asking seniors to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of the economy?! What, so he can spend more time polishing his little truck? His mind is so impoverished of creative problem solving skills that he cant entertain listening to experts or consider standing up to tRump.
Rather than truly engage in bringing together the best minds in the state (some of which may differ in political opinion and lack his talk radio bullshitting bonafides), hes resigned to this sad ass plea. Disingenuous holier than thou crap - he doesnt actually consider himself at risk of dying of the disease, so his feigning self sacrifice is inappropriate at best, and dangerously stupid for a person of his position.
Texans deserve better - even the ones blind to patricks chicanery.

(4,981 posts)And Im sick and tired of it. For starters, patrick, paxton, and abbott need to go.
Texans everywhere should check their registration status, or go online to print and mail in their registration form, now. Printable form is available here: https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/where-to-get-an-application-2.html
When I was a VDR in 2018, the most common reason for not being registered besides not updating after a move to a new residence was young adults not knowing that the voting age is 18. I dont know what lack of education or misinformation campaigns have been happening to cause this level of confusion. Talk to the young people in your family about registering to vote!

Similar to Romney's 47% remark that he did not intend for the general public.

(17,370 posts)Aktion T4 (German, pronounced [akˈtsi̯oːn teː fiːɐ]) was a postwar name for mass murder by involuntary euthanasia in Nazi Germany.[4][b ] The name T4 is an abbreviation of Tiergartenstraße 4, a street address of the Chancellery department set up in early 1940, in the Berlin borough of Tiergarten, which recruited and paid personnel associated with T4.[5][c] Certain German physicians were authorised to select patients "deemed incurably sick, after most critical medical examination" and then administer to them a "mercy death" (Gnadentod).[7] In October 1939, Adolf Hitler signed a "euthanasia note", backdated to 1 September 1939, which authorised his physician Karl Brandt and Reichsleiter Philipp Bouhler to implement the programme.

(82,383 posts)expect individual sacrifice for the public good. This society is based on individualism and they usually are behind that - no help for the poor, let them work harder and they will do well on their own. Society owes no one. Now suddenly, that basis is gone and he expects sacrifice for the greater good.

(42,641 posts)So to a Libertarian, or to a sociopath, to sacrifice is something that other people do.
In my view, many of these right wing politicians are perfectly happy to do a 180 degree reversal on any policies that they claim to hold, as long as that reversal is in their own interest.
treestar
(82,383 posts)The Ayn Rand crowd is against "collectivism" meaning anything done by a society as a whole, and libertarians think it's every man for himself on just about anything; if you have the money for treatment and testing, you get it, if you don't, go earn the money. (There was a case around the time of the ACA where one of those insane state legislators told a lady who had a son with a serious condition that needed millions to treat it, that she should "consider using money she earned herself).
But you are right, this asshole wants others to be the ones to do it, and he probably considers that he is privileged - if he gets it, he will be tested and of course he'll get the ventilator. If poor people can't afford it, they just won't and will die.
