In an exclusive interview with CNN, nurses from the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington that saw the first major outbreak of the coronavirus tearfully described trying to care for their charges and revealed new details about symptoms their patients experienced.
...
During the extensive interview, nurse Chelsey Earnest said she saw symptoms that have not been noted by the media.
...
Its something that I witnessed in all of them, Earnest recalled. They have, like you can describe it like allergy eyes. The white part of your eye is not red, its more like they have red eye shadow on the outside of their eyes. But weve had patients that just had the red eyes as the only symptom that we saw and go to the hospital and pass away in the hospital.
Ive even had the disaster medical control physician say, Do they have the red eyes? And I will say yes. And hell say, Ill find you a bed. Its just something about this, the way that it affects these patients.
According to CNNs Sidner, red eyes as a COVID-19 symptom is not currently noted on the Centers for Disease Control website.

(45,442 posts)If it's the only symptom, this is obvious bullshit fake news as the CDC and NIH are probably not trying to suppress this.
I would not want to be having tired red eyes or an eye infection or allergies if this is the level of dangerous misinformation people are spreading. It's bad enough that people run from me when I sneeze from allergies. Sooner or later someone is going to get shot.
Googling shows only the fake news conservative media are running with this.

(11,986 posts)and I don't think there was anything about anyone trying to suppress it.
But it appears to be anecdotal at this time.

(7,286 posts)By her description she is not talking about conjunctivitis ( she specially mentions the white part of the eye, thats the bulbar conjunctiva that gets red in eye infection)
She is talking about the skin around the eyes that can get red in allergies which she again mentions. This is known as erythema, the red shadow
My first guess would be blepheritis an eyelid infection. Very very very common in nursing homes. Bacterial though, but in an immune compromised patient it could rage out of control
My next guess would be a sign of severe oxygen depletion
My last guess would be coincidental allergies

(3,014 posts)There was a guy on CBC radio, I dont know if he was an author or what he was, and it was like probably at least 10 years ago now and he was talking about how at the height of the smallpox outbreak a lot of doctors said that they could tell if a patient has smallpox before they started exhibiting symptoms by a certain look they had in their eyes. And these doctors really couldnt elaborate on it except to just explain that it was like a far off distant look with anxiety and panic even if the person wasnt showing signs of anxiety and panic.

(26,291 posts)Unless it's actually confirmed to be caused by the virus it could be just about anything else causing it from a secondary infection due to bacteria to an allergy not to mention crying.
