I have no problem calling a dick, well, a dick. There are other genitalia related words if spoken would get me punched in the dick by my wife and every other women I’ve ever known.

Most gender or racially offensively words are about real, perceived, or inferred power, and whether the intent is to infer or impose dominance. IMHO this case is merely a poor choice of words.
