Your tales of the business shutdowns/isolations?

What are the stories of your own, neighbors, family members, friends?

i have to start my taxes so i'm home for a couple of days and then back to patty's.
this crap is getting real.
no more haircuts.
many businesses being shut down.
patty and i are on retirement so we should still get our regular checks.
younger folks are not in such a good position as we are.

It is getting scary. They are laying off people at work and I will be gone soon. I will be getting 3 weeks paid vacation and 4 days of sick. (I think). I am on Medicare, so I don’t have to worry about the company’s plan. Linda had to go in to do payroll today. I have a sinus infection and I decided to stay home. How are you doing?

I was lucky to get my hair cut the day before our governor suggested that hair salons and other places close down for the time being. I just hope it's back open before I'm due for my next haircut in mid-April, but I won't hold my breath. Most bank lobbies are closed, except by appointment, but drive-up service is still available. Schools are closed here until April 27th, at least. Most restaurants are closed. McDonald's is offering take-out and drive-up service, but no seating inside. Moon Hing, our Chinese-style restaurant, is offering take-out only, no seating. At least this was the last I heard. I don't always watch the updates on the news. It gets discouraging, and I can read it online anyway. Major grocery stores have special open hours from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM for seniors only. That's damn early for me, but I might set my alarm if I truly need something.

I was thinking about my SSA retirement benefit, too, but it should post automatically next month as usual. I filed my taxes several weeks ago so that's not a concern. I need to renew my driver's license before my birthday in May, but right now the DMV is shut down.

Daughter, a 5th grade public school reading teacher who lives on the other side of our county, went to her school yesterday to pick up materials to do her classes on-line which is totally new to her. She's setting up a special office in her basement for that purpose. She has a hubs now out of work and my 13 YO granddaughter and a guy that rooms with them, a restaurant worker that's also laid off.

Son, a 35 YO college student lives with me and does most of our errands. He took his last quarter's finals on-line and will be doing next quarter entirely on-line. He's bored to death. I'm 72 and told him if the virus comes in this house, I'm likely a dead man. I'm going to try a get him to cut my hair soon and I don't give a damn what it looks like if it gets the hair off my ears.

Friend, a 40-something highly skilled electrical designer for an A&E firm is now doing all his work at home on-line. Much of what he does is using AutoCAD.

Neighbors, a fantastic pair of 40-ish ladies that are LGBT. One recently went through lung cancer treatment and is on constant oxygen so she is of very high concern. Her partner works for one of the big hospital chains from their home doing billing, so that is very positive for both of them.

Thanks for allowing me to share our madness.

That's my little world.......

Manager of an auto parts supplier. Auto repair is considered an essential business so they are open. Business is awful so TPTB made him take a 15% pay cut (and work fewer hours) and lay off half his staff. They are being extremely careful about packages and have no dealing with the public. I’m retired.

Daughter is an RN and is a case manager for Aetna, working from home. She is terrified she will be forced to go to the front lines. Her husband is a construction worker, laid off. Which is ok as he keeps the kids occupied while she works.

Son is a medical billing manager and working from home.

Replaced and repaired in 3 hours! This was last week, right as local bars n restaurants were being closed, places still open.

You dont realize what u cant do without drivers window working, no drive through banking or take out, u ever get stopped by cops, they shoot u before u can open door to explain!

Yes, i spent repair time thinking of horror stories
