President Trump's proposal to get business around the country back open by Easter Sunday, April 12, will do more harm to the economy if the coronavirus outbreak has not been contained, economists say.
Why it matters: Such a plan would sow uncertainty in markets and among customers and business owners and make the recession longer and harsher.
"It will only delay a full economic recovery."

The bottom line: "Trump is deluding himself if he thinks that he can step behind a podium and reopen the economy," Michael R. Strain, director of economic policy studies at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, wrote in an op-ed for Bloomberg.

As much as I dislike Mike DeWine he would make a better President than the one we have now. He is using common sense. Better safe than sorry when it comes to lives.

Our beloved governor is refusing to even close all beaches, much less non-essential businesses. He doesn't do anything without Rick Scott's OK, who doesn't do anything without IQ45's OK. So as you can see, the decision making process in Florida is slow. So slow, localities have to make most decisions.
Case in point: The Florida Keys are closed to all non-residents. A local, not state decision.

(16,616 posts)I've been hoping this would be the case: economists won't fall for this cheap Trump ploy.
Let's hope those in Trump's inner circle have the wherewithal to show him this.
