Will people on Social Security get any money from the 'bail out'?

I think I've heard it'll be 'tied' to people who filed 2018 income taxes.

Many people on low income (including many on SS) do not need to, and do not, file income tax forms.

So, many of the poorest of the poor are getting no help?

https://www.axios.com/coronavirus-checks-to-every-american-steven-mnuchin-9ca22bc7-3bd3-4dfb-9702-6e2de39537c5.html

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday that the Trump administration is discussing sending checks to Americans "immediately" to help cushion the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Driving the news: Mnuchin, who has been working closely with bipartisan leadership on Capitol Hill to pass new legislation to provide coronavirus relief, announced a series of economic stimulus efforts at the White House designed to help small businesses, corporations and individuals.

What he's saying: "Americans need cash now," Mnuchin said. "And I mean now — in the next two weeks."

He obviously has more faith in this government than we do.

Don't know if it will work, and I suspect those of us making <$25k like me may not get anything, but it's worth a try.

It's like "Certs is a candy mint! No, Certs is a breath mint! Stop, you're both right -- Certs is two *clap!* two *clap!* two mints in one!" (Sorry. I got carried away on Memory Lane.)

Anyway, it's a hybrid. A little of this, a little of that, and voila! A bill with the only guaranteed outcome being that it'll no doubt disappoint/piss off somebody.

Me, I'm just assuming I'll get nothing. That villa in the south of France will just have to wait a while longer. C'est la vie.

Certs is a breath mint (or, according to some, a candy mint) manufactured by Mondelēz International, and it has long been one of America’s most popular mints.[citation needed] Certs was the first breath/candy mint to be nationally marketed in the United States, and has been a fixture at American drug stores and convenience stores since its debut on the market in 1956. It was discontinued since 2018, possibly for having Partially Hydrogenated Cottonseed Oil, which is not allowed as an ingredient in food sold in the USA since then.[citation needed]

17. Let me explain my thinking
Wed Mar 25, 2020, 03:07 PM
Mar 2020

This is not money to make people whole. This is stimulus money to keep the economy going. John Smith who works for corporation X and makes 60k a year is now working from home. He still makes the same amount of money. In fact more, since he no longer has to commute or extras like buying lunch, etc. He will be getting a stimulus check.

Jane Smith (no relation) makes maybe 10-12k a year on SS or SSI or SSDI. They get either far less or nothing at all, depending on what the answer to the question is. She lives month to month. There is no extra money for stocking up, buying sanitizing things, etc.

Now Bob Smith was laid off due to the virus and will get either 50% or 80% of his income (depending on the final bill) and that stimulus check will maybe help a little to alleviate his loss, depending on how much he was making in the first place.

Then there is Kathy Smith who is a necessary worker and still has an income. In fact she may be getting more money or more hours now to fill the need. She will be getting a stimulus check. BUT, she is also taking a big risk and in a just world would be getting "combat pay"

I hope my question makes more sense now.

Thu Mar 26, 2020, 04:01 AM
Mar 2020

Their income per se may not be disrupted, but their cost of living is going up, in some cases dramatically:

-the pandemic has increased demand for all types of essential goods and services, thus increasing cost.
-availability issues means having to pay for delivery, etc.
-medical/ppe/cleaning supplies needed to keep themselves protected

Especially on a fixed income, all of this would add stress to their situation.

If 2 trillion dollars is going out the door, then the most vulnerable amongst us should be getting some of that money.
