I had to drop off some laundry to my mother...I leave it on her porch. Today she opened the door (I stayed on the steps) put more laundry for me to do on the porch and blew me a kiss. I took her laundry to my trunk.
On the way there, I stopped at the grocery store. I am not OUT of bread, but it IS old, so I thought I'd see if there was anything. I wore a mask and glove and glasses. I use a disinfectant wipe to grab anything and wipe off each thing as I go. 27 bucks later, because I went to the store hungry, I pay with a card and head to the car. I spray the bags down with lysol to be careful, and let it dry while I head to Mom's for the laundry.
Before I left, I wiped down the door handles of my car, and the trunk 'button' with 24 hour cleaner/disinfectant. When I get home, I remove everything from the car, wipe it down again with another disinfectant wipe, strip down to my skivvies, throw it all on the wash, take a shower including netti pot (It will flush out the virus if you inhaled it in your nose if you're early enough) and soapy suds from head to toe is the key. I then put on house clothes and stay in until I need to leave again, this time is a close one...tomorrow...to deliver Mom's laundry back to her. Unless she needs anything, I expect that to be a completely solo trip. I might order carry out from a local business tomorrow...my fave is doing carry out curb service, so it might be my treat this week. We will see
I used to take a shower to go out. Now I take one to stay in

(34,377 posts)open them and make sure I wash my hands thoroughly after reading my mail. I'm being as cautious as I can. I hope it's enough. I discovered I have all the ingredients to make bread so I'm going to try my hand at it. Life is different. Take care, everyone.

(44,973 posts)Oh the good old days (just a couple of weeks ago) when we didn't have to do any of that.

(7,715 posts)I had to go to the UPS Store now, and changed/showered immediately after coming home. I used the towel to carry the clothes back outside, which we leave in the sunlight for a day. Any shoes we use on the outside are left outside for a day, too.
I fully appreciate that this may not work for everyone, but these are things to do to further reduce the chances of spread. Keep your as a "clean space" and any time you go out or someone from the outside comes in, I think it makes sense to take these precautions.
We have no leadership at the federal level, but thankfully have great folks like Governors Cuomo and Newsom, who are leading us through this crisis. We have to do things too since the federal government has let us down so badly.

(58,785 posts)and will next time. Fortunately, the only audience to our covered back patio is the creatures in the marsh pond and wilderness bordering it.
The closest Walmart was dismaying. Many people turning into crowded aisles, making maintaining effective social distancing impossible. Some serious and with masks, one chuckling dismissively when I hissed "distance, distance" at her as she pushed in and leaned right across me (!) for something. I left my 79-year-old husband at home and saw many singles, men and women, but also some very elderly couples.
Most controllable and egregious, my Walmart didn't have wipes available at the door, but instead provided a spray bottle, inviting every virus-carrier to grab it. Fortunately, because I'd run out without my own wipes but assumed I'd find them there, there was a roll of dried paper, so I sprayed it and spread it over the cart handle, soaked a couple sheets more, and then draped one on the bottle handle for others.
Then, dismayed by what I found myself in the middle of, I grabbed a bottle of spray sanitizer to purchase and went a little righteous with the full bottle, but especially handling items with soaked "wipes" and spraying down the self-checkout station. I would have liked to use it on the assistant who unnecessarily handled my bok choy while clearing a computer glitch (to eliminate that was the big reason I was selfing), but I sprayed the bok choy itself and just "reminded" her not to handle the merchandise please -- restraining myself from a reinforcement she wouldn't blow off. On the way out I sprayed the store's bottle of sanitizer until it was dripping, and then at home I sprayed various items and the counter, including the boy choy again in the sink. My most satisfying purchase, and if Trump or McConnell, etc., had been within reach I'd be in jail now.
I'm sure other Walmarts have done better. I could try shopping at another next time, which will be a while (but I forgot to get toothpaste!), but will probably go to Publix, farther and definitely more expensive, but hopefully more than worth it. And then I'll strip and shower.

(9,696 posts)and filled it with water and concentrated Dr. Bronners soap. It makes a nice sudsy spray, I spray everything with it including produce. I cut up a bunch of old shirts into squares and saturate the square with the spray bottle then wipe everything. I use the squares to handle anything and also spray and leave it there to dry.
Leaving the shoes outside, and taking a shower first thing when inside. I have a small bottle of throat spray antiseptic that I use whenever coming home.
Just picked up a case of pet food which will sit in my trunk until I need it in about 3 weeks.
Hoping the produce delivery actually comes today, my first time trying this store. The Vons canceled my store pick up twice. I asked them why they were even promoting this service if they can't fulfill the orders. It was a rhetorical question.

(4,516 posts)Please don't forget to wipe down the things that went with you: purse, wallet, phone, keys, badges, glasses, ect. AND please don't forget to wipe down door handles and light switches daily!

(10,051 posts)the bottoms of your shoes, it can come in on them as well. Keep a roll of doggie poop bags in your car to put on your hands or over your gloves (as I do) to handle gas pumps, they are really bad because the virus lives for a long time on them. The bags also work for the debit or credit card terminals.
