I just watched the daily briefing and sat there wondering once again why I did, when I got a call from my budtender. My wife and I are seventy-three, both with health issues, and he tells me that if we need anything, anything at all like from the store or help he will be willing to do it to keep us safe and healthy. I realized that my dealer cares more about me than my president. I feel like crying for two reasons.

(12,864 posts)Your budtender is not alone in understanding your life has value, but we all know not to look for that in this POtuS.
YOU are not alone, however isolated at the moment.

In fact, most people are pretty decent.

(20,018 posts)Is that why 100,000,000 Americans support what Trump is doing?

(14,573 posts)And, don't forget that many who are supporters of Trump, or who have been Republicans since Reagan, are propagandized by four decades of corporate propaganda designed to divide us, make us mistrust each other, make us hate each other, make us resent the poor or helpless among us.
Lewis Powell wrote his famed manifesto to the US Chamber of Commerce that lays out the path, through propaganda, for what we have today, and then Reagan pocket vetoed the Fairness Doctrine in 1987. This laid the groundwork for Fox and AM talk radio to present 'conservative positions' 24/7/365.
I say most people are decent because there aren't MORE victims of this propaganda.
And, note I said decent. But I did not say well-informed. Even among the decent, relatively few are informed enough to really be called responsible citizens of this republic.
Some people are just stupid.

(60 posts)It is good to know there are still people out there who care about their fellows and that human interaction can still be based on empathy and the will to remember the universality of human experience. You affirm that there is a much higher experience than the mere transactional willingness to manage human beings as if they are worn or damaged former assets to be surplussed without a thought . You have uplifted me in a way that I struggle to feel even worthy. Thank you so much for this friendship and for extending to me the embrace of your community and emotional support. Even if it has to be for the requisite six feet of social distance. Again thanks.
