I have a question about a statewide shelter in place order.

Since I live in Florida it's not a bridge I've crossed yet. Does a shelter in place order mean that you have to stay home for fourteen days, without venturing out for food or basic supplies? Or can you leave your home to gather food and necessary supplies?

Here in MN, our stay-at-home means stay at home unless you're out getting food or medicine, going to the doctor or going to an essential job.

Grocery, pharmacy, farmers markets, banks, gas stations, laundromats - essential services are open.

Some states are stricter on non-essential services where its grey area: accountants, lawyers, liquor stores, mechanics shops etc.

If you have a relative or pet that needs assistance, you can typically travel for their needs.

Lowes and Home Depot are considered essential businesses, as well as drug stores, supermarkets and gas stations...and restaurants (drive thru or delivery only)...and freakin' Walmart.

But most people are staying in and keeping their distance.

We walk the dogs and take occasional hikes. Yesterday I went to my work to check emails and tie up some loose ends, then went to Target and my local health food store for a few supplies. It seemed almost everyone was trying to maintain social distancing, like waiting to enter an aisle if someone else was already there.

It’s pretty easy to move around, but most people (not all) are trying to comply as much as possible.

Here in southern oregon, think the ones that took over federal office years ago and basically got away with it. Our governor when she said to shelter in place specifically said to them this is not martial law. You can still go out without being stopped unless you are outside in large parties.

She is talking about going out for work and essential services.

If this lasts for months I just hope. The crazies don’t flip out.
