I remember watching one about an old indeginous person ( a cree I think) building a traditional canoe from tree bark, all with hand tools.

that won't take up much of your time:

Lonely Boy (1962, 26 min.). Documentary by Wolf Koenig and Roman Kroitor. Beautiful made documentary about the making of teen idol Paul Anka. Really amusing to travel back to the very early 60s, whether you remember that innocent time, or want to know what it was like. Don't miss "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" sequence late in the film.

Canada has been known internationally for its exceptional animated filmmaking, and the granddaddy of them all was Norman McLaren.
Try:

Begone Dull Care (1949, 7 min.): Direct animation by Norman Mclaren, either painting on clear celluloid or scratching on black celluloid. Musical score by Oscar Peterson. A classic.
Neighbors (1952, 8 min.) Mclaren; Social satire
The Cat Came Back (1988, 7:40 min.) By Cordell Barker. Hum along.
The Street (1976, 10 min). By Caroline Leaf, based on a story by Montreal author Mordecai Richler. Should grandma be sacrificed?
