Stay home, disinfect surfaces, etc. Very little on wat you do for yourself. The best they do is say get rest and stay hydrated. Should you take something to reduce fever? Headaches? Cough suppressant or not? Actual advice is sparse and simplistic

I haven't been sick in "forever" (knock on wood), but I seem to recall that you shouldn't just run to the acetaminophen any time you have a slight fever. Of course a high fever is another story.

I'm only me, and I know nothing. If I get symptoms I'll call my doctor and follow her advice. I made sure to have acetaminophen on hand, along with the other things the RN listed.

is not to try to reduce a fever until it exceeds 101.

I don't think the evidence is clear either way - but I figure the body's natural virus fighting mechanism probably developed for a reason. Mild fevers aren't proven to be harmful (evidence not clear either way) and in the short term they make you feel miserable enough that you stay in bed and rest - which is a good thing.

It is ok to take something overnight if one is feeling down, but a Doctor should be contacted as soon as that person can be reached.

If a person is feeling really sick, that person should go to an emergency room, they can't refuse treatment in this country. The person should not consider not having insurance to be a blockade. I hope that we get universal health coverage soon, so that anyone that requires healthcare get it immediately, without concern.

Not ever y could or should just “call your doctor “. It don’t know what world your live live in. Many, many people don’t have doctors to call. I’m lucky enough to have a doctor but that’s not my reflective reactive. If I got it and you severe symptoms I would 1) call called ahead to th ER and 2) go to to ER. I find it super annoying when people post mindless responses. I was looking for trusted resources for helpful advice on self care. I don’t even want to burden my healthcare provider if I can avoid it by having good foreknowledge.

Maybe you should have tried that instead of a discussion board of people, most of whom have no training in the area that you asked for suggestions in.
