George Harrison's foundation launches Inner Light Challenge to raise covid19 funds

"The Material World Foundation, the charitable organization founded by the late George Harrison now run by the executors of his estate, has donated $500,000 to MusiCares‘ COVID-19 Relief Fund, Save the Children, and Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) in an effort to those affected by, and working to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Additionally, Harrison’s philanthropic arm has launched a community-driven, viral marketing campaign branded as, “The Inner Light Challenge”, with the goal of raising money for the same cause.

According to an announcement shared by the foundation on Thursday, the challenge–named after Harrison’s song by the same name released by The Beatles as a non-album single in March 1968–encourages anyone around the globe to share a photo or video highlighting any of its lyrics and share it to social media with the hashtag “#innerlight2020.” Every post shared featuring lyrics from “The Inner Light” will result in the Material World Foundation donating $1 (up to $100,000) to help those affected by the worst global pandemic in a century. The lyrics can be sung or hummed, written out by way of customized artwork, or even chanted.

“These lyrics sung by George are a positive reminder to all of us who are isolating, in quarantine or respecting the request to shelter in place,” Harrison’s widow Olivia Harrison added with the announcement. “Let’s get and stay connected at this difficult time. There are things we can do to help and we invite you to share your Inner Light.”......
