America is stocking up on food, thermometers and hair dye.
The latest sales data from Nielsen shows how our lives have been affected by widespread social distancing and, in some areas, mandatory lockdowns, as the world tries to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Just as in recent weeks, sales of medical supplies, cleaning products, paper goods and shelf-stable food have been remarkably high. But last week customers also flocked to beauty products salons are closed, after all.
Yeast saw a big spike as we launched new baking projects. And in the meat department, hefty spiral hams have newfound popularity.
Here's some of Nielsen's data on what Americans were buying.

(20,248 posts)husband. No longer with us, tho.
They willingly used this shampoo and conditioner [if needed] to neutralize any yellow. Doesn't make your hair purple, just anti-yellows out greyed/white hair.

(9,069 posts)My hair turned grey early (runs in my family) and I'm sick of dying it but I didn't like the yellow cast so now is the time to check it out and see if I'm okay with it.

(20,248 posts)Grey/white hair is more resistant to absorbing color.
Hope it does the trick for you!

(8,706 posts)Thats what I have been thinking. I usually cover my grey with henna but but stopped a few months ago because I was getting compliments on my grey streaked hair. Today I decided Im putting henna on tomorrow because I want to look younger if I end up in the hospital.

OhioChick
(23,218 posts)He said he can look at your labs/vitals and tell you a fair amount of your preexisting conditions.
The labs/vitals would then determine your qSOFA score which would then determine if you were going to be put on a available vent, or not.
Hair color is not considered vital.

(58,656 posts)but the fact is, when that truck is bearing down on you, first you say it and then you do it and it doesn't matter how clean they were when you put them on.

(14,531 posts)that grey hair would keep them out of the ICU.
OhioChick
(23,218 posts)That how young you look or are will NOT earn you a vent or a spot in an ICU.
Hospitals and doctors already have protocol they're required to follow in regard to this pandemic. (My kids are doctors)
They will access your health status (comorbidities) and your chance of survival with the assistance of a vent and compare you to others in need of that vent.
Your age, how young you may look or your color of your hair will play NO factor.
There may be someone that has grey hair, older than you, that has a better chance of survival and they'll get the vent, not you.
On a side note, do you really care what you'd look like if you were in the hospital and on a vent?
Your lungs would be filled with fluid and you'd be suffocating to death.

(14,531 posts)I have used this and it works pretty good, once you figure out how to spray it on. I have long hair and only do my part and sides around my face. As long as I don't wear a ponytail you can't see the back and underneath. It costs about 7 dollars. I've used it 4 times and still have some left.
My hair grows fast and is hard to color at home. I have to go to a professional to get it done. My FIL is very sick in FL. and more than once we've had to go there on an emergency basis just before my appt.
The 2nd time we had to go I bought it. It did a decent enough job. The package says it lasts 1 day. You can stretch it out to 3 to 4 days if you don't wash your hair daily.

(25,183 posts)why I could not find yeast the last couple of trips to the store. I do have two packets left, perhaps they can be extended somehow?
I could just use wild yeasts already present on my flour, and try to make a sourdough starter.

Seriously not happy about the thermometers, though. My daughter developed a fever on Wednesday - and our less than one year old thermometer died, just after it told us her temperature was 107. I drove to pretty much every store in a 10 mile radius looking for a thermometer or, failing that, just a new battery. Then we tried the neighbors. One bad thermometer. Then finally (about 12 hours later) we found another neighbor with a spare thermometer that actually worked.
