Trump issues order to bring former troops back to active duty to assist in coronavirus response

President Trump issued an order Friday night that permits the Pentagon to bring former U.S. troops and members of the National Guard and Reserve back to active duty to augment forces already involved in the U.S. military’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, senior U.S. officials said.

The president said Friday night that the decision will “allow us to mobilize medical, disaster and emergency response personnel to help wage our battle against the virus by activating thousands of experienced service members including retirees.”

The president did not clarify whether anyone will be involuntarily recalled to duty, but said some retirees have “offered to support the nation in this extraordinary time of need.”

my MOS was as a combat engineer, but my civilian life is a truck driver so I can see the need to re-activate me for transportation if needed and I would gladly trade my civilian clothes for the Marine uniforms again, of course, they would have to re-issue me some larger uniforms as I have gained a wee bit of weight since I retired from the Corps.

There are hundreds of thousands of active, reserve, and National Guard available right now. My niece is in the Guard and says only 2 units have been mobilized in her state. There are many medical units that haven't been alerted.

Retired soldiers aren't necessary... Trump is just pretending to do something.

I did 3 years in the Cav and then was on inactive reserve status for another 5. January 1998 I was done.

During Desert Storm we had several guys living in our day room. Bunks and wall lockers but no real privacy. I think they held a separate formation every morning but other then that I have no idea what they did all day. I shared a cab with one of the guys. He had been out a few years and was a real estate agent in New Jersey. He was losing a ton of money just sitting in a room in Germany. Yeah they brought them all the way over to Germany.

I'll bet that Putin is itching to offer the USA some help and sending Russian military support.
