Trump Now Saying 100,000 US deaths would be evidence that he has been successful

Trump has come a long way from the 15-cases-but-we're-going-down-to-zero. He's now saying that keeping this to 100,000 US deaths would be evidence that he has been successful.

@ddale8
Trump, reframing the crisis, says he's now seen a study that shows 2.2 million people could've died if they did nothing, so "if we can hold that down to 100,000...maybe even less," it'd show they did a "good job."

The response.

I heard him talk like it was a corporate business deal, not people’s lives. And nothing about being safe and taking care of your loved ones.

... and Red Don is a fuckin idiot.

There's no way the number stops at 200,000 unless there's there's an aggressive open testing regime on the federal level.

He is the one who fucked this up from the beginning.

100,000 dead? He actually said that? I can't even imagine the blow back he is going to get, or SHOULD get, if we had a media that actually pushed back.

When the death toll passes 100,000 -- and if Trump continues to fuck around like he's been fucking around for the last 10 weeks, it will -- Trump will deny ever saying this, and he will continue to claim success as the number of dead mounts.

If nothing's done--that includes no hospitalization, no mitigation strategies, no testing or anything based on testing, you get the 2.2 million #.

It's a dismal article. https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/medicine/sph/ide/gida-fellowships/Imperial-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf

Worth reading, but only if there are at least 3-4 ounces of pure ethanol in some sort of tasty solution nearby for easy consumption.

Day over day growth in deaths has been an average of 45% since 28 feb and averages out to be 30% growth per day in reported deaths since last week. At the lower rate, we could reach 100,000 dead Americans as early as the 14th of April and 1/2 million dead Americans by about the middle of May. However, I suspect the growth trend in deaths won’t continue on at the rate I mentioned - or at least I hope not.
