Because of the quarantine rules, barbershops and salons are closed. With Trump's extension of the social curbs, I probably can't get a haircut for at least a month. Ugh.
When my son was a little boy, I would cut his hair and I bought a barber-quality electric razor with various attachments. If these shelter-in-place rules continue, I may have to pull it out and give myself a buzz cut. That'll be interesting because I've had long hair most of my adult life.
It's another thing I guess I can thank Trump for.

Perhaps my post should have been in the Lounge. My apologies as I certainly didn't mean to belittle the seriousness of our times.
Peace.

(23,218 posts)I didn't mean to and it wasn't my intention.
He just got home, showered and told me what's going on and I'm afraid.
After hearing some pretty horrific things, I came here frightened and saw your post and jumped the gun.
I apologize.
Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

OhioChick is cool. She's just frightened and concerned for her son. I meant the OP to be lighthearted and could have put it in a more appropriate Forum or Group. My mistake.
By the way, I don't really miss the gym!

(23,218 posts)He told me he's going to leave here until this is over as to not infect me. He doesn't want to kill his mother.
Since this hasn't yet reached any sort of peak here and he's already working close to 100 hours/week, I asked, how will I know you're okay?
He said he'd check in when he could. If I don't hear anything from him for a week or two, the hospital protocol would be to call me to tell me he's dead. He's got health problems as it is.
I don't want him to leave, even if that means I catch it, too. I don't care.
Again, I apologize for being a thread killer. I'm just scared to death.
Perhaps I should leave for a while since my emotions are raw and my insides are shaking as I type this.
Thank you for understanding. You've always been so kind to me, thank you for that. I'll always remember.

(22,035 posts)Don't leave. We need one another at this time of isolation and fear.
I really hope that your son will be okay. His work is admirable and his dedication to people's well-being is remarkable, as with so many health care workers. We need these brave warriors.
Try to draw some strength from this community. Try to fight against fatalism. You have friends here.

I think I've been to a barber shop or hair cutting place only about 5 times in 20 years.
My son uses it for various styles of haircuts, as he is a part-time musician and some of his cuts are wild.
No mess, no cost, a haircut in 5 minutes. The only thing is you keep the vacuum cleaner on the other side of the door. A whole house vac would be best, but this house doesn't have that. The first time I used it, I went to the barber shop a day later, because I was self-conscious on how it worked and the barber said it was a perfect cut.

The only thing is that it's tough to trim the back neck hair with a mirror, unless someone can help. Doing it by yourself might take a few minutes more. The first couple of times you use it, you need to figure out what works. Depending on the style, it's best to get the cut, then you can hold the adapters up to map out which ones to use where, else you just play around with it, selecting long adapters and then slowly making them shorter until you get the right look. Then you make note of which adapters you used for certain sections of hair. If you are looking for a messy style, you'd have to cut to a length and then chop up the look. This is a machine and perfectly cuts the hair.

(4,305 posts)I always tell them I want a Flowbee haircut. Then I have to explain that I want all of it no shorter or longer than the width of your hand just like a Flowbee would do.

(16,334 posts)still had all the attachments and guidebook but not the clipper oil so I may have to order that. My older son gets a short haircut regularly and his hair grows really fast. With the latest warm temps, he was getting miserable with his mop. So we did what we could and it looks pretty good. Sometimes it's not about vanity but about comfort. He joked about me buzz cutting my own hair but I'm thinking of dying it blue or something instead.

(23,099 posts)It's not bad yet, but within 2 weeks - horrors. Guess I will be wearing hats at least until the end of April when I go for grocery runs or walks. My hair doesn't take up color evenly, it's very dry, so it looks bad when I do it myself.
luvs2sing
(2,220 posts)My stylist cut it super short, and the plan was to keep it that way for the next three cuts. We figured it would be grown out by mid-April. My March appointment was cancelled, so now I dont know if I have white roots or brown ends, but it is horribly two-toned. And bushy. Very bushy.

(4,392 posts)The hair make-up looks like blush or an eye shadow in it's container, so I have to be careful what I put where, hehehe. And it's not a long-term solution - it just lasts the day or a heavy brushing, LOL!
Then too, one random day the hair is just too too long to wait another minute let alone make appointment for a haircut; then I just grab some hair scissors to whack a couple inches off the bottom. Since I pull it back in low pony, that DIY haircut is rarely a problem.
lark
(23,099 posts)My hair is curly, so the cut is kind of hidden anyway, it's just that ugly stripe I will have to deal with. IF this goes on for months and the ends start looking bad, I will just chop them off as you say. I do miss getting my hair done and having a nice chat w/my stylist, I've been going to her for over 10 years. It's one tlny sacrifice in a whole sea of them.
Mossfern
(2,493 posts)thank goodness. I also stopped blow drying and just letting my chin length hair do it's curly messy thing. My stylist originally was doing an ash glaze to blend in the silver. We stopped doing the glaze about three months ago to eventually fade out, so now I have "interesting" color. I'm so curious to see what color my hair really is. I definitely have a couple of dark streaks - so it will be interesting. It's long enough so I can put it up if need be.
I can't believe I'm posting stuff like this!

(805 posts)But then my hair was down to my elbows, but about 2 inches longer on one side.
I trimmed about 3" off, shortening both sides...one of the reasons I let mine grow again, to save time and money on the tonsorial experience.

(9,067 posts)I just did this last night, however, my hair is very long. I just pulled wet hair forward into a ponytail, lined it up to the center point of my hair line (like in the video), put another band down toward where I wanted to cut it and snipped it off. I then cut into the edges as they show to soften the blunt line. Worked like a charm. There are a load of other videos for men and women, different lengths of hair and different cuts.
Good luck
