Fareed Zakaria: Trump's claim turned out to be a cruel hoax

How did we find ourselves in this situation? It’s easy to blame Donald Trump, and the president has been inept from the start. But there is a much larger story behind this fiasco. America is paying the price today for decades of defunding the government, politicizing independent agencies, fetishizing local control, and demeaning and disparaging government workers and bureaucrats.

Zakaria always seems to put his finger on the problem.

Given how much venom they unleashed against Chuck Todd, I can only imagine the horrific things the MAGATs will say about a man named Fareed Zakaria.

He states without evidence that both parties are to blame. After watching forty years of destruction
carefully implemented by the Republicans only to bring us to this point of disaster, I find his
"bothsidism" revolting.

Clinton and even Obama maintained some of the neoliberal policies of the Reagan years.

The Reagan/Thatcher neo-liberal policies were an abject failure. After all that is real story behind this.

I don't know why America clings to that philosophy as if it is sacrosanct. Let's go back to the policies of Roosevelt, Truman, even Eisenhower.

And making downsizing government into almost a religion so that many conservatives who needed government programs and paid into them for years often disapproved of them.

He didn't mince word or waste any time getting to it. I set his broadcast to record every Sunday.
