That woman is amazing. She was on morning Joe speaking Truth. She knows how to walk a fine line when she needs to; and silently rip out your trachea, while you're still talking, if she has to.

(4,723 posts)More Christians don't adopt the viewpoimt that maybe science is a gift to humankind from their deity. Science is unconcerned with God's and other supernatural phenomena, it isn't an enemy of religion.

(111,094 posts)I suppose?
It's really an insult to God, if God controls everything?

(4,723 posts)However, most Christians accept and even indulge in some degree of things of "this world." I think what it boils down to is that their sources of information are influenced by people who find science a threat to their wealth bukding potnential. The message then must be that science is an evil.

(748 posts)The age of the Earth and the fossil record are the chief problems, but there are plenty of others.
When science tells you what you don't want to hear, you kind of ignore it.

I have, in reading, come across the suggestion that perhaps the fossil record was put in place by God to test the faith of Christians.
"Alternate facts", I suppose.
I'm no scholar on the matter.

(5,640 posts)They have no problem watching TV and getting news from electronic devices like phones.
They have no problem going to the doctor and getting the best medical care when THEY are sick.
They have no problem with flying in planes or driving cars.
Most of them even get vaccinated for the flu.
I do not believe it is a religious belief, religion is the useful tool. I believe there are certain corporate powers at high levels that are ok with killing masses of people in this country and those powers now have a willing idiot to carry out their desires and prey upon the 38% that can't think for themselves.
They took control of the government and have not looked back. Dismantling protections and departments at an alarming rate. Destroying decades of progress in 3 short years.

(36,804 posts)A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.
"Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast."
"No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."
Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat.
"Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute."
Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through."
After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.
"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."
Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.
And, predictably, he drowns.
A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"
God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

(33,579 posts)just what stupid fucks believers can be.
It also gives God credit for good things people do. Like people thanking God for a miracle when rescue workers worked their asses off to save someone.

(81,265 posts)Our Indivisible group's "call-to-action" emails start with a quote, an inspirational opening. I'm on the team and since I'm the "quotes collector", I wind up being the writer who plugs a new quote in every week. Lately I've been getting them in verbatims off the TV coverage. I collect quotes anyway, just because. Now I can put some of 'em to use!
Nancy Pelosi and Andrew Cuomo were this week's choices.
Our children face real national adversity for the first time.
They are hurting, they are scared, but they are learning.
And they will be better people and citizens for it.
Lets teach them the right lessons.
Let our better angels guide us.

The markets are not going to succeed unless we take care of people...for those who say prayer over science, I say science is the answer to our prayers
(changing priorities) from trickle-down at corporate headquarters to bubble-up from the assembly-line floor.
