AUSTIN (KXAN) Austin Public Health is investigating a large group of people with a cluster of positive COVID-19 cases returning from a Spring Break trip to Mexico, the agency said Tuesday.
APH says about a week and-a-half ago, the group comprised of approximately 70 adults in their 20s left for a spring break trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Currently, 28 of the 70 have tested positive for COVID-19, and more of them are under public health investigation. The University of Texas at Austin confirmed many of those involved were UT Austin students.

(23,099 posts)Wow, who knew it would be today? i'm sure testing is almost non-existent in lots of beach towns, but I'd be surprised if there isn't a big spike in infections and hospitalizations soon because of spring break.

(11,302 posts)of course, one might suspect that the group might not include the most socially conscious among us .... (you could also make a random guess .. since this group chose to "break" in a foreign locale .. perhaps a bit privileged?)

(6,477 posts)They also no doubt started the spread in Cabo itself. Dipshits. But seriously, the State Department should have issued advice together with CDC in late January. One of the consequences of the complete inattention of the federal government to this matter was that the free-for-all continued well into mid-March, well past too late to stop the catastrophe.
