This is from THREE years ago. But they did not see it coming...👀

Since then, the CDC has been under the leadership of a temporary acting director, even though the directorship is internationally recognized as "one of the most crucial public health positions in the government given the CDC's role in tracking and stopping infectious disease outbreaks in the United States and worldwide."

In addition to lacking a director, more than 125 job categories — each of which applies to multiple positions — are blocked from being filled. Vacant positions include many within the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, which stores and monitors the world's most lethal bacteria and viruses, and maintains U.S. stockpiles of necessary countermeasures in case of an outbreak.

Wilful and malicious destroying of competence. And if deaths are contained at 240,000 I would be very surprised, unless they do not start mitigation to a much greater extent than the federal government currently says needs to happen.

Weird how that article, nor any of the other articles on the site from four years ago, doesn't say "4 years ago".

Without understanding anything about "flattening the curve" or how reducing the number of severe cases that occur at one time is preferable.

It all comes back to the man who refuses to take responsibility for any of this.

There needs to be an investigation after the Democrats win in November.

the parallels are eerily similar. And chilling. Except now it's not just Iraqis and American servicepeople who are bearing the brunt of the effects thousands of miles away, it's all of America right in their neighborhoods.

to remember past disease spread patterns.

When it first showed up in China with reports of being highly infectious, a few random bits of knowledge converged in my mind. New, so no vaccinations. China, so international spread due to business and tourist travel.

And from memory of past experiences with widespread illnesses, I expected large numbers of people missing work and school as it spread. (Did not anticipate the shutdowns)

I had a routine med checkup in December, while it was still just in China. Told my PA that I was concerned because of my age and some med issues. He laughed at me and said, very patronizingly, that my town in NY is a long way from China. I told him it would reach us. He shook his head, grinning, and dismissed me when I tried to tell him about the Asian flu pandemic out of China in the 1950's when I was a child.

Now, just 3 months later, there are confirmed cases in my community. That same med office allows only people with an appt in the building and screens them for temp at the entrance door. Nobody can come with them.

I am not a biologist, epidemiologist, nurse, or doctor. So if I saw it, how did so many that we rely on miss it?
