My governor (Illinois Governor Pritzker) has also been giving daily televised briefings to the public and press, for nearly all of March, that are phenomenal. Together with the head of the state's board of health, the mayor of Chicago, the state's chief economic official, the labor guy, and head of medicine (who repeats her delivery in Spanish as well). They last 45 min. to an hour each afternoon.
Yesterday, near the end, Pritzger spoke directly, and empathetically, to students, both el-hi and college, who are feeling disappointed/angry about missing studies and/or graduation, or fearful about their families. He said he understood what they are going through, because he has teenagers of his own at home right now who are going through it. He encouraged them to go ahead and have those feelings, that they deserve and need to have them. But he also offered them praise and hope for the creative things they are doing, that are in themselves a kind of learning they can carry into the future. It brought tears to my eyes.
