So did China conceal evidence to protect their industry? Maybe, but if they did they didn’t do it for very long. At the time there was no way to know how big it was going to get and whether or not it could be contained.

Meanwhile whatever China did or didn’t do pales in comparison to the US response. The US can’t claim ignorance as we had weeks to prepare while Trump did nothing but try to gaslight everyone as usual. People we knew were infected were getting off cruise ships and running around unchecked at airports. Hell even now you have GOP governors refusing to do anything and those who are still grant totally dipshit exceptions guaranteed to kill people.

China arrested the doctor who went public about this very early on.

China knew and concealed.

Trump knew and distracted, delayed and concealed.

So whatever mistakes they made were very short lived and can be attributed to ignorance. The US has no such excuses.

So far as I've seen reported, the initial coverup was at the local Wuhan administrative level. Wuhan authorities were the ones who tried to downplay the new infection and who detained the doctor and forced him to apologize. It seems that once Beijing got fully involved, the situation turned around. The federal government even posthumously exonerated the doctor and apologized.

As with everything with China, it's impossible to tell how much of this is the real story, and how much of it is propaganda spin. We'll probably never know how much the central government knew and when they knew it.

Us and China are looking very similar in terms of propaganda and coverup. Republicans have a hard on for blaming China for everything right now as part of their desperation to exonerate Trump.
