Gort! Klaatu barada nikto. In the movie an alien shut down the earth. A virus has shut us down.
Klaatu. I am fearful when I see people (Trump voters) substituting fear for reason.
Trump is Tom, the boyfriend of Helen in the movie.
Helen. What about the rest of the world?
Tom. I don't care about the rest of the world.
Tom. You'll feel different about me when you read about me in the papers.
Helen. I feel different now.

Ha! I just read the wiki post, and this was mentioned in there:
The Martians in H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds have destroyed everything in their path and apparently triumphed over humanity, but they are suddenly killed by bacteria.[11][12]

(219 posts)re Day the Earth Stood Still: Don't want to put out spoilers, but there are some interesting moments in the film and I recommend that if you have any taste for good drama and tolerate sci-fi/science fiction, you should see this movie. Patricia Neal and Michael Rennie are terrific. Directed by Robert Wise, Academy winner for West Side Story and Sound of Music. It's a movie that stays with you. I was always particularly touched by the scenes with the little boy who unknowingly was teaching the alien.
(Edited to clarify which movie, as two more titles and a remake entered the discussion!)
