Gomer Pyle star Forrest Compton dies after COVID-19 battle

Gomer Pyle: USMC actor Forrest Compton has died at age 94 after losing his battle with COVID-19.

The screen star passed away from complications with the virus on Sunday according to his close friends, who confirmed his death to the Shelter Island Reporter, the local newspaper in Shelter Island, N.Y., where Compton had relocated in 2002 after ending his acting career.

Compton was arguably most famous for his role as Lieutenant Colonel Edward Gray on the CBS series Gomer Pyle: USMC, opposite Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton, which he appeared in from 1964 to 1969.

He also found success as district attorney Mike Karr on soap opera The Edge of Night, and in other popular shows such as One Life to Live, As the World Turns, and All My Children.

And according to his obituary, the last show he appeared on, Ed, was one of my favorite shows of all time.

RIP Forrest Compton.
