WH medical expert didn't treat sick grandchild

Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the two leading medical experts on the White House coronavirus task force, said that out of deference to social distancing rules she had stayed away from her daughter’s house — despite her 10-month-old granddaughter having registered a fever of 105 degrees over the weekend.

Birx said the child, who is recovering, probably had roseola, a common childhood infection, not COVID-19. “My grandchild of 10 months had a fever of 105 this weekend. I’m the doctor and I couldn’t get there.”

“I did not go there, because of you two,” Birx said gesturing to Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. “I mean, you can’t take that kind of risk with the leaders of the country.”

“Good,” Trump responded.

Giuliani, and Stephen Miller to be his only advisors.

Btw, have you taken a look at WHO is on that coronavirus task force? Overwhelmingly a nightmare list of Trump political appointees to whom he doesn't listen anyway. Trump needs Birx and Faulci for credibility, though, and they're both tough enough to do what they have to to keep whatever influence they can over Trump's actions. As the female, she seems to have assumed/gotten stuck with the role of sucking up more so Faulci can be the hero (suckup) pushing the limits farther.

I think we should be smart enough to realize why she's doing it. AND that he is also and why.

A whole lot of stupidity contributed to the election of Trump and the sociopaths in the Republican leadership who are hiding behind him. 250K is the worst case for the best case. The worst case is deaths in the millions. Time to get smarter. Our enemy is not Birx.

Her grandchild has a pediatrician.

Faulting someone for not leaving their job to unethically treat a family member is absurd.

It is usually recommended that as healthcare professionals, we do not treat friends and family.
I think it was the right thing for her to do. How she said it probably did not convey what she was thinking.

I am choosing to not visit my family. I work in mental health and I am more than likely more exposed than my family due to the # of patients that I see each day. I would not visit them at this point if they became ill. Thank goodness for technology, we can face time each other on a regular basis.

but she does have a point. There are still plenty of doctors available to treat her granddaughter.

I don't know about making herself a martyr for the sacrifice though. Feels too reality television for me. Also did she get permission from the parents to reveal the medical condition of her granddaughter?

A duty as a member of a presidential detail to not venture into a potentially harmful situation. The president gets protected no matter how much we hate him and wish he would just die of some natural causes. I bet Dr. Fauci is not able to treat anyone during his tour of duty on the task force.

When I have, has only been for part of any given attention for donnie session. They’re always 10% marginally useful and 90% demoralizing stupidity from dear leader.

I did catch this exchange, and I’ve gotta say, birx seemed rather candid. What shocked me was that tRump wasn’t aware of her granddaughter’s illness until this briefing. I’m not even sure he understood the takeaway from her comments. Her white-knuckled personal account winding to the, “because of you two,” explanation was as much a response to how to gauge social distancing measures as it was about the need for his Lardship* and company to take this seriously and work for the best possible outcomes for ALL people in the United States.

She’s made personal sacrifices that would startle any parent/grandparent, so the least don-don could do is listen to experts and try to do better with the response. He only heard the loyalty pledge side of it, because he thinks this is all about him.
