in week ending Sunday, April 5th. It was released today along with my husband's New York State unemployment benefit. My husband opted to have 10% Federal and 2.5% state income tax withheld from his state unemployment benefit. 10% Federal income tax was automatically withheld from the Federal benefit as well. $600 - $60 tax = $540 net benefit.

This is the 1st time in my husband's 43 years of working that he's applied for unemployment. He'd rather be working so F&*K OFF!

(11,927 posts)They are no hurry to go back and make less money. Do you blame them?
In some instances they are making more laid off than their co workers still working who are deemed essential
ARPad95
(1,671 posts)and not you painting with a broad brush. I think all essential workers should be paid double the $600 per week as hazard pay.

(1,178 posts)Let's say I'm being paid $15/hour for a 40 hour week, that's $600 a week. If I got laid off, I'd get $300 a week in benefits, plus the extra $600 a week for a total of $900 in unemployment. So, I can either go back and work for that $600, or do nothing and collect $900 from unemployment. Granted the extra $600 will stop being paid out after July 31.

(537 posts)Every country that had a pandemic plan addressed a basic income if business needed to be shut down. In fact the documents were posted here a few weeks ago. This is not new. In fact from what I had read right here it was a monthly income. Let me tell you from 30 yrs of experience of losing a job every year for months at a time, I'm in the trades we work ourselves out of a job everyday we go to work. The first couple weeks are nice! Enjoyable even. But then a month goes by and the lack of purpose, being productive drives one mad.

(5,169 posts)and did it come as a direct deposit?
ARPad95
(1,671 posts)are supposed to be Direct Deposit within a couple of days of today's release date. Even if you choose Direct Deposit on your application for New York unemployment benefits, it appears at least for your first payment, New York puts it on a Key Bank MasterCard debit card. My husband's first and second payments were on the debit card. This is his third payment and it is now going to be Direct Deposit. Nothing in our checking account yet.

(5,169 posts)and they haven't released a bank card to me, unless it comes in the mail soon. I set up my direct deposit over the phone, when I made my claim. I would have done it online, but I never got through, and only accidentally got lucky with the phone and got a callback. I just checked my credit union account, and nothing has come through yet. Last time I was on unemployment, I would usually see a deposit Wednesday or Thursday. Last week was our 'waiting week' so this week is my first benefit.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the $1200.

(4,613 posts)from their unemployment checks as it is taxable. If you don't pay now you will definitely have to pay later.

(537 posts)I'm wondering how it was released today for the week ending the 5th? When is your certify date? Mine is on Wednesdays, money usually shows up on Friday.
ARPad95
(1,671 posts)his state benefit was released on Monday, March 30th.
Just received my payment Saturday. No stimulus there ETA I checked my acct on Sat
Wondering if NY does differently. Illinois you certify every two weeks. So this timeline still not making sense to me. There is usually a 2 day lag time before money is direct deposited and 3 days til a paper check would show up. And if you are wondering why I'm so insistent it's because we've been thru this all before in 2008-2011 where hearsay ruled the day. If you have seen the "info" going around on various forums, SM it's absolute nonsense compared to the little info given on Govt sites and MSM sources.
Sorry in advance.

(1,671 posts)My husband certifies on Sunday. For the week ending Sunday, March 29, his benefit was released and put on his debit card on Monday, March 30. For this past week ending on Sunday, April 5, both the Federal and state benefits were released for direct deposit on Tuesday, April 7. I just logged into our online checking account today, and they're both pending deposit.
And sorry to be so nit picky!! Wishing you health and goodluck during this time!
