MLB considers playing all the games in Chase Field - Phoenix

I get playing games in Phx, since half the teams have training facilities there. But why only Chase field.

All of the teams located in AZ also have Spring Training Stadiums throughout the Valley. Why not use those facilities if you aren't playing in front of fans?

Sure the teams would have to travel a bit more, but we are talking a 45 minute bus ride at most. They would have to stay in hotels so why concentrate everyone downtown. Even if lodging is the issue there are a half dozen Spring Training facilities within 20 minutes of Downtown Phx.

I get playing multiple games in Chase. But you could survive for a couple months playing night games.

Average temperatures in Phoenix in July are between 104 and 107. Could play at night, but minimum temps are between 81 and 84 (and that's after midnight).

And June in Phoenix (and July and August) is miserable. And in June you get the afternoon Monsoons which can make both extremely hot AND humid in AZ.

They'd have a permanent crew who knew exactly where and what to hit plus the players would get to know the facility and where to touch/sanitize.

If I had to guess further I'd guess they have a larger capacity bullpen for social distancing.

Lastly I've heard they'd use an electronic strike zone plus barring convos at the mound. Does Chase Field have the best electronic strike zone set-up?

Although the first part seems risky. Running multiple teams through the same location.

Most of the other spring stadium stadiums are fairly small, some built in the 50s and 60s.

It is what is so cool about Spring Training, basically the size of college stadiums.

I think they expected, or were at least hoping, that the fans would let out a mighty cheer that baseball was gonna be played. But in all the places I've looked, I see maybe one or two for it for every forty or fifty against it. (And it might be more than that. I'm shooting low.) Most of the comments were along the lines of, "Yeah, I love baseball. But this is dumb."
