Trump Keeps Talking. Some Republicans Dont Like What Theyre Hearing.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/09/us/politics/trump-coronavirus-press-briefing.html
Aides and allies increasingly believe the presidents daily briefings are hurting him more than helping, and are urging him to let his medical experts take center stage.
Even the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board chastised the president for his behavior at the briefings. Covid-19 isnt shifty Schiff, it wrote in an editorial on Thursday, using Mr. Trumps nickname for Representative Adam Schiff. Its a once-a-century threat to American life and livelihood.
I told him your opponent is no longer Joe Biden its this virus, Mr. (Lindsay)Graham said.
And its not just an overwhelming majority of voters who believe the medical experts should be center stage: Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, personally urged Mr. Trump at the start of the crisis to let Drs. Fauci and Birx be the face of the response, according to a Republican official familiar with their conversation.
Some of Mr. Trumps aides have quietly suggested to him that he ratchet back his public attacks on the governors who have emerged as leaders in the response to the virus. But they acknowledge their efforts can be something of a fools errand; the president has his style and he wont change, they say.

I think all these alternatives are possible and then combined with deficient prefrontal cortex abilities there is a dangerous adolescent in charge of the world.
And the (r)epuglicons are just fine with this. I can understand a Delirious J. Trumpf spinning out of control. What's in it for the (r)'s?

(13,225 posts)but in the end they remain the cowardly boot-licking enablers they have always been. Even with the death toll mounting daily they allow Trump to continue to destroy our country and its people.

(182,803 posts)He cant back down now. His ego (ratings!) wont let him and he knows if he stops showing up everyone will see it as a retreat. I have noticed him distancing more but the camera angle is wider too.
Hes gotten his own bigger shovel and longer rope.

(I know mixed metaphor. Blame it on Jim.Beam.)
Seriously, if Trump has a fatal flaw, it is his desparate need for atention. By attaching himself so front and center to the virus, he will be forever associated with death and economic ruin.

(182,803 posts)The election is going to turn on turnout African-Americans and women. None of this plays well with either of those groups. Its going to be a voter suppression firebomb everywhere - thats his only chance.

(11,495 posts)they have to be in charge all the time, they will NOT let others tell them what to do because they think they are smarter than anyone else, as trump has told us many times.
They also hold a grudge forever, and they will go after anyone who tries to correct them in any way.
