During the segment, Bennett said that losing 60,000 Americans to COVID-19, which the University of Washingtons model projects will happen even if the United States continues to implement social distancing restrictions, would be akin to a very bad flu season.
What Bennett failed to mention, however, is that this projected death toll would have been an order of magnitude higher if the U.S. hadnt placed any restrictions on social gatherings.
The conservative commentator then tore into everyone who said that COVID-19 should be taken seriously.
STFU, Bill. Don't you have some new rich people virtues to discover, or something?

(95,255 posts)Calculated on a 'deaths per day' basis, the fatality rate from covid-19 runs about fifteen times greater than from the worst recent outbreak of a new flu strain.
And of course the ignorant oaf seems to be making a rookie error in understanding what the term 'pandemic' means. It does not mean an illness of devastating lethality, on the order of bubonic plague, so that something must kill an outlandish proportion of a populace to be denoted a pandemic. The term simply means a contageous infection which has spread to every quarter of the globe, and so poses what threat it does to everyone alive, rather than to only persons of a specific region of locale.

Never fails to amaze how far GOPers will go to insist that Trump isn't dangerous. Now it's another 60k deaths,
Big deal.
