GOP leaders say they won't help states battling COVID-19

By Associated Press -April 13, 2020 9:31 AM

Democrats want another $250 billion for hospitals and states.

As governors plead for aid, Republican leaders in Congress said Saturday they prefer to replenish a $350 billion small-business program rather than negotiate the broader coronavirus package Democrats are pushing with the White House.

In a joint statement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said they will seek "clean" funding for the Payroll Protection Program without tacking on $250 billion for health care providers or cash-strapped states as Democrats want.

"American workers are in crisis," they wrote.

The Republicans said they "reject Democrats' reckless threat to continue blocking job-saving funding unless we renegotiate unrelated programs which are not in similar peril."

He couldn't be clearer about the dangers of not having a strong federal government. This dearth of leadership and coordination would have been at the top of the list. It puts the entire population in peril.

Which funds social security and amounts to a 50% cut in dedicated social security funding? Next step will be to make this cut permanent. That means employees/taxpayers will pay ALL the FICA instead of it being split 50/50 between employer/employees. And it means MASSIVE CUTS in social security and medicare down the road -- which Republicans have been itching for for DECADES.
