Does anyone think we will ever get out of this mess with Trump in charge?

Will the economy ever recover?

Will we ever get this virus under control?

Will the confidence ever be restored?

Will the fear ever disappear?

Will we ever return to anything "normal" while Donald Trump is in charge?

since this will take years to recover from, I highly doubt trump will be around after Jan 2021 beachbumbob Apr 2020 #1

But when Biden turns things around maybe not as good ad it was before Trump but better than now. When the country gets back on its feet people well have to worry about another republican president. So not only do we have to elect a democratic president we have to over turn the Senate too. Especially McConnell.

If good things happen on his watch, it's an accident, or someone else's work, or some combination of both.

But in answer to your question, no, I don't think anything will ever go back to the "normal" we had. With a Democratic president and Congress, we have the chance to build a different normal that actually works for people, but even that won't happen immediately.

I'm hoping the vaccine comes from somewhere like Japan or Europe. I'd have a much better level of confidence from something they produced than anything Trump-approved. Although I'm a big fan of vaccines, I'd be scared of anything he and his scumball allies in industry were in favor of.

In the meantime, the possibility of a vaccine is the best we can hope for, unless Trump manages to limit its distribution to his class and his voters.

They can't seem to spend enough to save this form of capitalism.

Buying stock on Wall Street isn't spending to them, it's investing. Spending is what the undeserving do with money they didn't earn legitimately, in their opinion.

Capitalism isn't what they're doing. They are devaluing the currency toward collapse. Imagine what you could do with non-dollar currency in large quantities if the dollar experiences Venezuela style inflation.

What forms we take when the pandemic ebbs is open to question.

Trump will make things worth as long as he remains POTUS.

Having the POTUS not support emergency funding to preserve the function of the US post office when current action should be to plan now for a 100% vote by mail election in Fall 2020.

In any case there are going to be major shifts in emphasis and entire sectors of the current economy that are not going to return. But surviving predatory capitalists will enjoy the disasters they perceive as opportunity.

It is conceivable to me that the USA could fracture. It is also conceivable that the USA could go Mad Max or fascist authoritarian.

Trump and GOP appear willing to destroy (followed by privatization of remaining functions) the federal government and international institutions.

that began before Trump invited the virus in. The only way we get positive change is to dump Trump and his fascist allies in the Senate.

If we can do that, it will still take a long time to regain the ground we have lost.

Yes, the economy will eventually recover. Under Trump, or any like-minded leader, it will underperform relative to its potential. But it will recover.

Yes, we will get this virus under control. Eventually. Leadership will need to come from other countries, the states, universities, and the private sector, but we will eventually get there.

No, confidence will never be fully restored under Trump or any like-minded leader. My investments are slowly being moved to cash, and that process will continue so long as Trumpism rules American politics.

No, the fear won't ever disappear. There is no bottom below which these people will not drag us. Even now, they are prepared to sacrifice 500,000 people to Molech if that's what they think it'll take to restart their precious economy.

No, things won't ever return to "normal" under Trump or any Trump-like leader. For that matter, they won't return to normal with a Democratic president either - not so long as Republicans continue to control the Senate. We need full control of the government to even start putting things right, and even then, the Supreme Court will attempt to throw a monkey wrench into everything.
