Using the link below I just found unclaimed property for seven members of my family. I have sent them all the link and they are on it.
Unfortunately didn't find anything for myself. However, several years ago I found $1,000 from something that happened in 1982 involving Deutsche Bank. To this day I have no idea what it was about but enjoyed getting the money.

Note: I recall using a copy of my 1982 tax return to prove who I was and to prove my address in 1982.
Have fun and let us know if you find anything. Don't forget to check every state you have ever lived in. Check on your parents, siblings, children, nieces and nephews while you are at it.

(19,835 posts)Everything I read says it's legit and it leads to the secure illinoistreasurer.gov site (the level where the SS# is requested) but boy, I'm so untrusting about this stuff...

(10,885 posts)Last year I found a small amount due me, and some pretty substantial amounts for family and friends.
Put in your info - get a check in a month or so (depending how efficient your state may be).
Lucky you!

(9,665 posts)I'm always searching stuff on the our state SoS site, saw the state logo and called it what I usually see.
And by the way, I'll second that edginess too. tRump got me going with this evening's presser and that on top of everything else, bingo.

(32,609 posts)start thinking about deposits for utilities. Did you move and forget to leave a forwarding address?

(19,835 posts)I get these little checks for like $2 from HP (thanks, Carly...) and sometimes they sit around until they're out of date.

She never had children either, and her parents passed away in the 60's. Her husband (my uncle) passed away in the 80's. She died a decade ago.

(32,609 posts)I understand that some states are more helpful than others about claims.
Good luck.

(15,411 posts)Sorry if that sounded like a silly question, but I'm terrible with these types of things. I would appear to need a death certificate. It looks like I'll also need proof that she lived there. How can I possibly do that? She passed away 10 years ago, and I have none of her bills.
The link for the required documentation took me here, but it doesn't say anything.

First I would call but I have no idea if they are working right now.

My next question would be do you have any cousins the same class of beneficiary?

(15,411 posts)Although I keep Christmas and birthday cards from relatives, I throw out the envelopes with their addresses. The proof of her connection to that address is in the unclaimed link, it's odd that they need more than that.
As for my cousins (her nieces and nephews), yes. Unfortunately they are estranged and I haven't seen them in years.
