We don't have the power of prophecy to forestall randomness, but all these years of being told that there was no money for basic programs, of slashing what measly programs there were, of chasing elective (chosen) social (non-)issues, of ignoring easy investment in real jobs (infrastructure), tuning up preparedness through OBAMAcare or other ways ---------------
instead of all that, no, wait for a crash, and voila suddenly it's raining cash that will be entirely susceptible to boondoggling and general thievery, which is always the way for "war" racketeers and Repuke feeders at the public trough (think Corporate Welfare, the BUSH family, the CHEENEEs, the SHITLER family, et al. ) .

(3,406 posts)As a nation, we have invested trillions so the military could keep us "safe". The historic visions of military strength have deceived us into believing that soldiers will prevent suffering.
At the same time in this country, other prevention measures have been neglected. Our generations could not imagine that something invisible like a virus could disrupt our lives and kill more of us than war.
A new model for security is essential. We shold have strategic stockpiles of medical equipment to protect workers and the victims of this plague. Citizens must DEMAND an equitable model for access to health care that does not ration life saving care based on wealth or employment status.

As for "invested" in the military - while a certain amount is necessary, a lot of what we've done with the military has not been an "investment," lots of boondoggling, military-industrial thievery, and general chicanery.
A real investment would be in the infrastructure, and easy way to create jobs that are actually necessary. Besides the other things mentioned.
