So looks like I'm moving back home. Lost my job for 3 weeks and unemployment isn't going to take me far. I don't know how I'm supposed to feel right now. This is the last thing I wanted. My mom is extremely supportive and she offered so it helps. But I'm just sad. Doesn't play well on my mental health.

(12,265 posts)be hurt. I know you do not want to go home but at least you have somewhere to go. The homeless centers are full of families right now. Hang in there.

(537 posts)Just reading where system has crashed. Really getting tired of gloom and doom posts, when just because system crashes doesn't mean you won't be receiving stimulus money. Not directed at you but alot of posters here.
What do you mean you went for direct deposit? It wasn't a choice. If the IRS had your bank info on file then it was automatic. There hasn't been any means to make that choice. Unless you used an online tax filing site. And if you did that within the last couple weeks, I would expect you wouldn't be first on the list. They are trying to catch up. This isn't a magic show.

(537 posts)I have just tired of nonsensical posts where the info for all your questions is available on the web. Making an OP that says you are not getting anything and will not make rent, because the system crashed this morning is not quite the truth. You may get something. If your mother is an accountant, who does your taxes surely she can help you navigate the UE system? You don't just give up and throw your hands in the air. Figure it out, keep pushing.

(537 posts)And remember I'm not responding to over 50's who have been thru it all. You will get thru this, it is not a failure if you have to fall back to your parents. It happens. We learn things all thru life. I've learned way more than I've ever wanted to. But I don't panic and worry much anymore. After losing my job in 2008 a week before child went off to college and having only worked 6 months in those 4 years, alone w a mortgage you figure out a way to survive. And cross your fingers. Sometimes thats all you have!! This is not a failure it's a learning experience completely out of your control. Find out what the rules are and play accordingly. Again this post is made as a parent, and wishes the best for you!!

(10,156 posts)I'm only 29. So I'm still experiencing a lot.

(537 posts)Same age as my own. You've just started. Probably your first out on your own catastrophe! There might be many. Survive this one, and you will be better prepared for the others. Ask your parents for guidance and advice, hopefully they share willingly. (Hugs)
I moved out just last year with a roommate. They are in the same boat. The lost their job and while they got their check it isn't enough to cover the full rent. So we decided to just part ways and move home. I hate to say my mom was right that I wasn't ready to leave since I didn't have experience in finances. She was absolutely right.

(43 posts)Even with the $1200.00, it's not going to be enough to keep many going. I have 3 adult sons & we've all talked. No matter what, if we have to, we'll all do what we can to survive this financially. If it means we live together again, so be it. But we're in it together. Believe me, you are not a failure, and your mom is thrilled if she can help in any way. This is not a normal situation.

(10,156 posts)That's true. But it definitely goes to show that if somebody misses one check it can screw up everything

Your state unemployment + 600 a week will not help you?? Thats 2400 a month on top of regular benefits
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)I've filled for unemployment. But I do not expect it to be anything.
Tink41
(537 posts)Are you 1099? If not your state has a maximum determined amount a week, depending how long you have worked previously and how much you have made in the last 18 months. Then after that there is another 600 on top of that. So let's say UE benefit 200 at the least. + 600 stimulus per week. Thats 800 a week income. Surely if you are in a panic about not making rent you had to have had an income to pay it previously???
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)I don't know tax stuff. A lot of that is done by my mom who is an accountant. She helped me a lot and I dont know how UE works since I never had to file for it
Taxes have nothing to do w any of it, except how you received your refund, and how much you made last year. You have only worked 4 months out of the last 18 months? You could have had 10 employers in the last 18 months doesnt matter. Whomever you were employed by for at least 30 days is who will get charged w your UE benefit. As long as your unemployment was no fault of your own, meaning you didn't quit or get fired.

(7,873 posts)I entered my information and it said "Payment Status Not available. According to the information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time;" however, I did some searching and it seems like a lot of people are getting this same error. I wouldn't worry about it. Based on all the criteria, I KNOW that I am eligible to receive one and they have my direct deposit information since I had to pay last year, so, I think it is just a problem with their system. Don't worry too much just yet.
GrapesOfWrath
(525 posts)if you had to pay last year. It is only if you received a refund which you directed them to deposit into your bank account. We are in the same position but just filed our 2019 taxes and are owed a refund so now they have our banking info.
W_HAMILTON
(7,873 posts)If you are right, then how do we go about giving them our information?

The first round of checks, which are part of the federal governments response to unprecedented unemployment levels and financial strain caused by the coronavirus pandemic, were automatically deposited into the bank accounts of those who filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return and received a refund via direct deposit

Have you filed your 2019 taxes yet? If you are getting a refund that will fix it... otherwise, it looks like you can update your bank info if you receive a notice from the IRS saying they "need more information" Check under bank account information in the faq's. Good Luck!

(7,873 posts)I haven't filed my 2019 taxes, but I most certainly will owe once again, so, I guess I will either have to wait for a paper check or look into updating my information on their website. I will go look into that now. Thanks once again!

(25,816 posts)I haven't filed for a few years.
On the US treasury web site, a statement by Steve Mnuchin on April 1st reads,
and I quote, "Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax
return, do not need to take an action."
I haven't received my check either, land taxes due by the end of the month.
But I'm thinking I'll get one, in spite of the endless stream of lies from this
administration.
