This is going to be one of the cornerstones of the Idiot's claim of innocence in his massive FUBAR of the Trump Virus. I've been trying to develop a thread on Trump's big lies so that we don't have to scrounge around for articles, evidence, etc. I've cross-posted this OP to mine, and will continue to do so for other relevant OPsL https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213159363

Trump is banking on people being too stupid to realize what a joke his latest "travel ban" was to the rapid spread of Covid-19 in the US. In his dis-honor, I refer to it as the Trump Virus.

And still the US was condemned for it--they were ineffectual, a waste of time, even biased and racist. Even here.

With a repeat of the "ineffectual, waste of time" language when the ban on travel from Europe was finally in place. Remember that Italy got kudos for it's "hug a Chinese" pushback. A few days before the first cases and the explosion of the virus all over N. Italy. (But hey, it was the right thing to do. Sounds like fundies with their "even if we die, we will go to church" dogmatism.)

It turned out to be ineffectual because the ban wasn't comprehensive or hard-nosed enough. It's like building half a dam, but leaving out bricks. Shut down all travel and sequester Americans/permanent residents or it's a waste of time--everything with gaps lets the virus through.

Should have been done early. China finally confessed that there was confirmation of human-to-human transmission--even if the first patient's wife, who hadn't been exposed to anything other than her husband for transmission, had contracted it by mid-December--and a minute later flights should have been rerouted. Taking time to hush things up and destroy information wasn't, perhaps, the best thing they could have done. And yet it's a "model response."

As it was the infection spread from China, partly in American citizens; and via Europe.

He chose to ignore it for the longest time, putting in place a totally ineffectual "travel ban."

There is NOTHING to redeem Trump for this. He had the knowledge. Had I known, I would have done a HELL OF A LOT more than he did. I suspect you would too. The point is that you and I did not know.

Only Trump did. Period. Full stop. End of discussion.
