I can't find anything online saying that people with direct deposit for their tax returns might not all get their checks today. I tried the IRS's tracker and they say they don't have enough information in my record to tell me what's going on. Anybody else in this boat?

Thank you so much!

Then they'll start mailing checks to people who don't do direct deposit, and I have seen that could take a total of 20 weeks. Another good reason to have a checking or savings account.
Don't think of 'deadlines,' as bureaucracy needs TIME to straighten things out.

(13,776 posts)I totally get how it wouldn't have been completed by now; it's actually understandable. It's a huge task. I just hadn't seen anything saying that they needed more time past the 15th; everything said the money should be there by the 15th.

(4,139 posts)I got the same message you did. I filed in 2018, but have not filed my 2019 taxes yet; I wonder if they are doing 2019 filers first.
That or the system is just screwed up

(13,776 posts)We haven't filed for 2019 yet either. Thanks!

(4,139 posts)After they have done the 2019 filers, they will have to go through the 2018 list and delete all the people from the 2019 list they already sent checks to to avoid double payments.

(13,776 posts)Maybe I just didn't look hard enough at the articles I was reading to see whether there was a difference between 2019 filers and 2018 filers.
I hope your $ shows up soon!
I got the same message you got, and I filed my 2019 taxes. I got a refund in 2018 & owed in 2019. I used the same checking account for the 2018 refund and the 2019 debit. Still, when I checked the IRS tool today, it said the IRS didnt have sufficient info for a direct deposit. I put in my bank info.
It looks like it will take several days before the stimulus payment hits my account.
Meanwhile, my son got his stimulus money two days ago. 🤷🏽♀️

(3,266 posts)deposit. I think theres not a lot of rhyme or reason, like with tax refunds, they run these things in batches, and is likely pretty random. Luck of the draw if you made it into this weeks batch or not. I was rather surprised to see mine, didnt figure Id be so lucky to be in the first round to go out.

(25,853 posts)This has been addressed dozens, possibly hundreds of times already. But if you get direct deposit for SS, you'll get direct deposit of the stimulus money.

(11,686 posts)I have kept my usual monthly budget so I am not losing out. I decided not to rely on it because I felt that if I allowed myself to do that it wouldn't show up and I would be screwed. I will rely on it when I see it in my account.

(3,335 posts)I heard yesterday for the first time that there was a maximum on how much your earnings could be, and I thought we were toast. But when I checked our bank accounts this morning, it was there.

The IRS plans to send the first wave of payments in the week starting April 13, according to an expected timeline from the House Ways and Means Committee.
The tax authority will transmit the payments via direct deposit, using the banking information it has on file for taxpayers 2018 or 2019 tax returns, the timetable said.
That first wave will include Social Security recipients who filed tax returns and included direct deposit information on their returns, according to the House Ways and Means estimated timeline.
The second wave will go to Social Security recipients who did not file 2018 or 2019 returns and receive their benefits through direct deposit.
In early May, the IRS will start mailing paper checks to households, at a rate of 5 million per week. The paper checks will first go to the households with the lowest adjusted gross incomes, and continue upwards.
It could take up to 20 weeks to mail out all those checks, according to the House Ways and Means timetable.

But they are definitely not sending out by first three digits of your SSN.
