Our war time president will announce a unilateral surrender to the Coronavirus this week
He simply has no patience for a long slog. He is bored with this and nervous about the economy and will cave in this week. I predict Friday.
He misses his rallies.
He misses golf.
He hates working.
He will tell governors it is ok to open up and return to business as it used to be prior to May 1st.
Red state governors will gladly acquiesce and the Coronavirus will surge in red states (like mine, Oklahoma)
I would be fine with this if these people would sign a release that they refuse to go to the hospital. Get Covid-19 and die. Thats the bargain. Your pres sent respirators to Russia. Tough luck.
Just my prediction. Hide and watch.

(4,139 posts)Id be perfectly fine with anybody coming to my state from a non-locked down state being subjected to a 14 day quarantine before they are allowed to go anywhere.
This thing is still not under control and it would be totally irresponsible to open things up until the resources and infrastructure are in place to do widespread testing and tracing.

Sadly more have passed today and yesterday, since this virus has invaded the country.. I know he's got the morals of a serial killer BUT I don't think he's dumb enough to open everything up on Friday....
I don't think he's bored with this, he enjoys dumping his lies and Bullsh!t all over the place during his daily press conferences...fake news fake news....
The economy is already shot, it's already beyond the point of no return for the next 2 or 3 years at best, it wouldn't matter if everything opened up tomorrow or May 4th, 16th or May 30, the damage has been done.
Just my opinion....

(10,885 posts)May 1 as his "deadline" for opening up. Frankly, "goal" should probably be more appropriate. He really sounds determined for that May 1 date.
Now Pencie will have to correct that to "aspiration".

(6,584 posts)But it said that the reason the orange menace is aiming at the May 1st deadline is because the unemployment numbers come out then.
Makes sense too.
Because push come to shove, "It's all about MEEEEEE!!!!!!"
Damn, I hate that pig.

(61 posts)I think the governors already agreed they will fight trump tooth and nail on their decision to keep things closed until they figure things out, but i don't doubt trump WILL retaliate against ... basically his on country.

(57,073 posts)Anounced a couple of days ago that he will reopen state in early May, because that's what dump wants. His announcement came just after Vanderbilt released TN-specific projection showing surge expected mid-June.
But he will have problems with that I think because Nashvegas & Memphis are both Blue areas.
they both end up overruling him then.
I just hope they make the right decision in the end and make sure to think of of everyone's safety and figure out how to support the people through this time. i know it's hard on alot of people, but i would rather everyone come out of it safely. I know trump isn't thinking about that. at all.

(57,073 posts)I was expecting Lee to reopen schools so working parents would have daycare but, to his credit, he recommended schools remain closed for this term (ends 3rd week of May here). But he did leave it up to individual districts.
I don't foresee wonderful Dem leadership in the Memphis area reopening anytime soon, as they are still reporting 80+ new cases per day.
Lee would be hard pressed to try to cut funding to this area, because he never provides any $ to this area anyway. He had $25 mil for roadwork, but almost nothing was designated for Memphis, despite even the interstates here literally being like an off-roading experience.
Perhaps he is beginning to listen to health experts, who knows.

(12,286 posts)State can go back to business as usual.
TOMORROW
I thought he would at least wait until Friday to announce it taking effect Saturday or Monday
But nope. Some states can go back to business tomorrow.

(63,221 posts)Even if certain politicians go along with it, they can't force everyone to comply and they certainly can't force individuals back to work or to go back out and spend money. It would be suicidal for people and for the health of the economy long-term.
