Well, I'm out of white thread, and in danger of running out of black. So I looked online and it's running around $10 a spool! That's crazy. I guess I'm done making masks for awhile.

(14,736 posts)Curious, why do you need to sew with white? I am sure if you are like me you have plenty of other colors.

(8,445 posts)I'm not much of a seamstress, so I didn't have a lot of supplies. I've gone through all of my white, and hardly have any black left. The few other colors I have kind of clash with the fabrics I've been using. I'm finding this mask-making thing to be a nice distraction, and I even started whipping up bowl cozies.
I'm just stoked that I was finally able to figure out this whole sewing thing. I had bought some masks from someone I found on Craigslist, but now that I'm making my own, I like mine better. I'm using the Olson pattern. I've given those I bought away already.
I delivered some that I made to my daughter-in-law and grandson yesterday, and my daughter-in-law was thrilled. Today I'm mailing some to another son and his girlfriend in Seattle. I'm going to also make some more for some tenants of mine. It's a great diversion for me, and helps everyone out.

(8,445 posts)I had been looking at Michael's, but their site was so cumbersome that I gave up. I just submitted an order at JoAnn's and got some fabric too. I'm also going to see if they have some fabric available for pickup, but my hopes are not high that they'll have anything. Walmart stores here are absolutely cleaned out.

(14,954 posts)I am coordinating a maskmaking group here in upstate NY. I will put the thread I have in a tiny box and mail it to you, just pm your information. I have a black , 2 white and 1 each baby blue and baby pink. Polyester thread doesnt go bad does it? Some of these have been around since thread was 4 for a dollar. Price gougers are such assholes!

(8,445 posts)I just made a JoAnn's order, so hopefully it'll all come through. I do appreciate the offer though.

(8,445 posts)And I think we'll be wearing masks for a long time too.
I have mixed feelings when I go somewhere and see people without masks. I wonder if they just don't have any, or if they're just jerks. I went to Walmart in a satellite city yesterday and it seemed like at least half of the shoppers weren't wearing masks. ALL of the employees that I saw were wearing masks. There were a lot of kids in the store too, which was disappointing.

(14,954 posts)Now that our original project has what they need we will be focusing on them. She says they will take as many as we can make and sees no end to the need. Our first project got masks to an 1100 staff team servicing a clinic and 76 group homes for the developmentally disabled. I am coordinating the group but dont sew. My front porch is HQ for people to pick up supplies and deliver finished masks. I dont see the need ending for a very long time. I am grateful to be doing something to help.

(4,041 posts)I was looking to buy a garden trailer to pull behind my tractor to collect debris, etc. The price for the one I saw at Fleet Farm was $244. I took a picture of the tag so I could compare it price on Amazon.
Amazon was about $10 cheaper. Since I lived without one for the 20 years weve been in our house, I thought Id wait to see if Fleet Farm might put it on sale. A week later i again checked the price on Amazon...........now $335.
Now this is just a stupid little trailer, but with people staying at home and not necessarily going out to do comparison shopping, they are now in the screw you mode. I mean its not like Bezos doesnt have enough dollar bills to completely cover America! Price gouging on a yard trailer?
The guys a grub.

(3,415 posts)Not with a yard trailer, but with other things. I buy something once, and then go back later to re-order and find the price increased, sometimes 2X. I then have to search for a similar item at the original lower price. It is infuriating! I think that Amazon must have an algorithm that determines that you have a desire to purchase an item and then applies a surcharge to future purchases. I've just about had it with Amazon for this reason!
