Only weeks into the job, the former congressman has confronted the same problems that frustrated his three predecessors. It hasnt helped him with his new White House colleagues that hes emotional and sometimes cries.
Mark Meadows has officially been President Trumps fourth White House chief of staff for less than three weeks.
In that time, he has shaken up the communications office, angering supporters of the press secretary he chose to replace. He has tried to put in place other speedy changes, hoping to succeed where his three predecessors failed. He has hunted aggressively for leaks.
But administration officials say he has been overwhelmed at times by a permanent culture at the White House that revolves around the presidents moods, his desire to present a veneer of strength and his need for a sense of control. It is why, no matter who serves as chief of staff, the lack of formal processes and the constant infighting are unavoidable facts of life for those working for Mr. Trump.
In the case of Mr. Meadows, it has not helped him with his White House colleagues that the former North Carolina congressman, who has a reputation for showing his emotions, cried while meeting with members of the White House staff on at least two occasions. One instance was in the presence of a young West Wing aide; another time was with the presidents son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
On both occasions, Mr. Meadows was discussing staffing changes, according to the people briefed on the events. A White House spokesman declined to comment on either meeting. A person close to Mr. Kushner said he denied that any such episode involving him ever took place.

(31,261 posts)What did Meadows think, Trump would be easier for him than for the supreme asskisser that immediately preceded him?

(23,313 posts)This is a shit show like none I ever thought I'd see. I think Meadows is as big a jerk as the rest of them...but faced with the absolute absence of ethics with that crowd, crying would be the normal.

(82,849 posts)Maybe even May Day. As soon as Trump figures he can shit-can Meadows without having it look like a mistake in hiring him in the first place, Meadows will be gone. I find it impossible to believe that Trump would keep someone he perceives as a cry-baby on the payroll.

(31,261 posts)Kushner and the little Nazi that writes Trump's speeches are going to eat Meadows alive, then Trump will fire him. Crying is seen only as weak to that crowd, even if crying comes from a standpoint of pure compassion (which is certainly not the case in Meadows instance).

(13,776 posts)I guess Mark Meadows is somewhat human after all. I wonder whether his adoration for Trump has faded now that he's had the misfortune to see so much of him up close.
