(36,900 posts)The presidents statements this morning encourage illegal and dangerous acts. He is putting millions of people in danger of contracting COVID-19. His unhinged rantings and calls for people to liberate states could also lead to violence. Weve seen it before.
"The president is fomenting domestic rebellion and spreading lies even while his own administration says the virus is real and is deadly, and that we have a long way to go before restrictions can be lifted.
"Just yesterday, the president stood alongside White House officials and public health experts and said science would guide his plan for easing restrictions. The White House released a sensible plan laying out many of the guidelines that I agree are essential to follow, as we work to resume economic activity. Trump slowly read his script and said the plan was based on hard, verifiable data and was done in consultation with scientists, experts and medical professionals across government.
"Less than 24 hours later, the president is off the rails. Hes not quoting scientists and doctors but spewing dangerous, anti-democratic rhetoric.
We appreciate our continued communication with the vice president, Dr. Birx, Admiral Polowczyk, Admiral Giroir and others in the federal government, but their work is undermined by the president's irresponsible statements.
"I hope someday we can look at todays meltdown as something to be pitied, rather than condemned. But we dont have that luxury today. There is too much at stake.
"The presidents call to action today threatens to undermine his own goal of recovery by further delaying the ability of states to amend current interventions in a safe, evidence-based way. His words are likely to cause COVID-19 infections to spike in places where social distancing is working and if infections are increasing in those places, that will further postpone the 14 days of decline that his own guidance says is necessary before modifying any interventions.
"I hope political leaders of all sorts will speak out firmly against the presidents calls for rebellion. Americans need to work together to protect each other. Its the only way to slow the spread of this deadly virus and get us on the road to recovery."

(36,900 posts)Nope, not any elected Republican (Collins may be concerned).
This evening's press briefing is going to be scary, especially after Cuomo's comments.

(11,773 posts)grown tired of trump's BS. Within days, trump will take some sort of revenge, but I trust our Governors to have a contingency plan in place. Inslee/Brown/Newsom only care about getting their citizens through this crisis intact as possible, and they have plan moving forward. Opposite of the orange mob boss in our WH.

I'm sure that they have thought this out and have many contingency plans in mind. They will not be blindsided by this Snizzwad. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they (or their aids) talk multiple times a day, planning strategies, while they are busy trying to save lives.

Mark it ...
Of course the knuckle-draggers will know he's just saying that to placate the evil media.
He will say he was just joking around. Just having a lil fun. His sycophants will say, Aw, thats just how he talks. He didnt mean nuthin by it.

(10,101 posts)He told protesters to save their second amendment, which has nothing to do with the right to protest or with the virus. It has to do only with guns, and Trump just gave these wackos encouragement to use guns to liberate their states. That should be cause for the 25th amendment to be triggered, but I know it wont. Trump is already responsible for thousands of virus deaths. How many more innocent people have to die to satisfy him?

(2,698 posts)The man is a jackass. We know that.
But he is also the guy holding the hammer, and his using it to smash stuff -- like the constitution and all of its amendments, like the SCOTUS, like NATO, or at least America's role in it.
He reacts to insults and perceived insults and perceived ingratitude like an angry toddler. But he holds the hammer.
If we vote him and his out of Washington, we take the hammer away. That's the only way to respond to his corporate-fascist actions and allies. And if we succeed in doing that, we have to go after him and his allies. Investigations and trials should abound and those found guilty incarcerated and fined and publicly humiliated.
