If discretion is the better part of valor, would it not be wiser to retreat on this virus until more information is known?

It's not about fighting for freedom - it's about stupidity?

Just because the number of cases have gone down in NY does not mean that another hot spot will not pop up somewhere else.

Not only are these protests unwise and reckless at this time, they are a threat to the friends and families of these protestors.

Waving Nazi and Confederate flags and yelling at the Governors is not patriotic. Very unwise.

4. The big mistake in the 1918 Pandemic was along those lines.

The virus spread, killed a number of people as it spread everywhere, then the dying and infections subsided for a few months, only to come back with total vengeance and kill tens of millions of people.

3. People Are Still Misinterpreting 'Flattening The Curve' For This Crisis Is Ending.....

Our leaders have not explained that 'flattening the curve' means that the stay at home orders are lessening the burden of possible Covid-19 patients showing up at hospitals and overwhelming the system. It's allowing the health professionals some breathing room to be able to care for those afflicted and still have enough ventilators and equipment needed to care for them without being inundated.

Too many people think this thing is dissipating and going away. It isn't.

This point needs to be made so that people understand. I even think Trump is interpreting it as it is going away. He doesn't understand.

I am no expert in this area, in fact I am a somewhat lowly informed novice. But one thing that seems clear to me is that we are walking into a classic 1918 Pandemic trap. That virus killed several hundred thousand as it spread around the world, seemed to flatten and subside, then came back with a vengeance and kill tens of millions. The fact that we had a World War going on likely aided the virus in killing, given that soldiers and civilians were cramped into tight spaces, but we have greater population density in our big and larger small cities and towns, so a second wave after the virus has spread everywhere is still likely to be devastating in terms of deaths.

I had to go to the Post Office today. I live in a red county. At the Post Office I saw the clerks all wearing masks and working behind plastic shields. Of the twelve or so customers that were there when I was, all the African Americans were wearing masks and observing social distancing protocol. Only one White person beside the clerks wore a mask and observed social distancing. Of the customers, there were around five African Americans and seven Whites in the main lobby, I saw other Whites at drop boxes without masks and when I left, every White except two that came up were not wearing a mask, all the African Americans that I noticed going in as I was leaving wore masks. Now the Post Office is fairly busy for a smallish Florida city, on a typical day, I would say that it serves around 400-700 people.

What do I think will happen? As Trump prematurely opens things up, at some point a lot higher percentage of Whites will start dying relative to African Americans, if what I saw is the rule, AA are taking this thing much more seriously now than Whites, that will show up in the illness numbers soon.

9. Just Got Back From A Grocery Run & Am Pissed.....

A lot of people - both White and African American were not wearing masks while shopping. They are not only endangering themselves but they are endangering me and others.

At both stores I sought out the manager and put in a complaint. They shouldn't let people shop in their store unless they are wearing a mask.

At Wal-Mart many employees weren't wearing masks. That really set me off.

I just don't understand why people just don't care.

Stores can set their own policies/rules. Everyone - employees and shoppers should all be required to wear masks.

10. Your experience and my experience were different, the AA that I saw seem to get it.

Of course, I have not gone grocery shopping in a three weeks, but that will end within the next two days or so, because my supplies are low, especially fresh fruit and veggies. I will pay attention to customers and workers at Publix, I know last time I was there, no employee was wearing a mask and I saw only two people in my immediate area doing so.

What you observed and part of what I observed is why it will be so hard to get ahead of this virus. We have an unstable person in charge and he is doing everything to lead people down the wrong path, and many are happily doing that.

I have to admit, the N95 mask that I have cause covered regions to sweat, that is irritating, but the alternative is worse. The masks that I saw people wearing at the Post Office looked much more comfortable, though not as efficient as the N95.

1) That's a mistake body baggers make. It is a compound of two mistakes. a) That national trends pretty much correlate with trends everywhere. In other words they can't fathom "where is your state on the curve". b) They don't understand what "exponential" means other than the pop culture meaning. So when a poor situation doubles in five days to a bad situation which doubles again in five days to a very bad situation, they are dumbfounded.

2) They think they know enough about it. They think they know that a) It only kills old folk (so keep 'em hidden). b) It's just like the flu, so easy to get over. c) It's been here since the fall. d) Fatalities are greatly over counted. e) endless myths.

3) Hard right does not do nuance. A reflexive retreat to yelling "Freedom" is much more exciting than staying at home. They are needy and self-centered, so they equate "freedom" with self-gratifying actions like getting haircuts.

Which makes it more fertile ground than practically anywhere else in the US. There will be othef outbreaks no doubt. Hopefully not as intense.

is wearing a mask. Even leaders are wearing masks when giving press conferences. Their level of discipline and willingness to give up some freedom and comfort for the greater societal good is what sets them apart from us.

is among the top seven dense cities in the world. San Fran's experience is way different than NYC's, but San Fran was the first big USA city to lock down also.
