I was thinking about the protests across America and the very act of these particular groups protesting is absolutely infuriating. You know who should be protesting, but are not because they are grown ups and know that staying at home saves lives:
The 20 million who have lost their jobs without any real social security net to support them, because the republicans have spent decades eroding these social support systems.
The 100s of thousands who are queuing up in their cars to access food banks, risking their health, to feed their families, because of a need to rely on charity in the richest country on the planet.
The residents of nursing and residential homes across the land who are dying in their thousands because of a lack of focus by the federal government on the viruss impact on these care facilities.
African Americans who are being disproportionately affected by this virus with 30% of the deaths recorded, while being only 14% of the population.
The families of the nearly 40,000 who have died so far because of the complete and utter incompetence of Trump and his pathetic enablers.
I would understand if all these groups headed to Washington with spearheads and torches and attacked the barricades of the smug tossers palace. I would understand it completely. But they dont and they wont. They are grown ups. They sit at home and worry about how they are going to feed the family, pay the rent, quietly grieve their loss. Instead we have a bunch of far right selfish wankers who would see the destruction of the republic, turn up with their guns and their nazi nonsense to demand the right to increase the misery of everyone who has already been so badly affected by this virus, because they can. They live in the land of the far right white privileged freedumb. In the real world America is not free, but they really are fucking dumb.
White privileged far right bollocks indeed.
one of those truths that cuts too deep ...

(6,915 posts)They are privileged grifters hiding behind the hard work and sacrifice of othersblack and whitewho suffered to make their lives comfortable. Lazy, soulless human beings is them.
They are selfish assholes, and they give enlightened/woke white people a bad name.
Which is part of the strategyto divide the people along racial lines. Dont fall for propaganda generalizations, darker-skinned folks. Most lighter-skinned folks think theyre assholes, too. I know I do, and am willing to tell anyone within (social) distance.
Fuck them, and as they escalate, so does the anger against them. Their demonstration is doing the opposite of what they want. Watch them crumble before your eyes, its inevitable.

(2,312 posts)My wife is an acupuncturist, and her practice is kaput for the near future. We're lucky because I have both a full-time job (though my nonprofit is in jeopardy because it supports a business, local journalism, that is not doing well in the recession) and a pension from the state of Colorado.
However, she has many friends, both here in Iowa and in Colorado who are desperate to get back to work as alternative healers, massage therapists and other hands-on service providers, almost all of whom work for themselves. In Colorado it's especially acute because of the cost of living.
Your four points above are exactly how I've viewed their situations. They want their businesses back, but they're left with only one option at this point putting their health and lives, and their families' health and lives in jeopardy in lieu of forfeiting their homes, their savings and their sanity all because of Republican policies that have both gutted what little safety net we've had in the country and prevented the building of more infrastructure that would fulfill that most basic obligation of government first stated in the preamble to our constitution: "to promote the general welfare" of our people and our country.
Fuck the GOP.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

(7,632 posts)Yeah, I said it ... because I just don't care anymore.
I just feel bad for their young children who will most likely catch the bug from them.
I will admit that if I was not retired and still running my small biz, that I'd be pissed and worried about me and my employees income stream.
But even if open, I couldn't make people use our service and would therefore most likely have few customers anyway until this is crisis is resolved. If it ever really is. Who in there right mind invites death into their homes?
Only those who think this is a hoax and so more of his brain dead science deniers will sicken. There's always an upside to every crisis.

(163 posts)They're not all white folk. As I was heading out Saturday, I saw an African American woman being interviewed on MSNBC. She was apart of the group of so-called protesters in Maryland. I was somewhat surprised, given she doesn't fit the m/o of these people astroturfing around the country.
Wonder how much this woman was paid?
