9. Trump's "how many cases, how many deaths" when I did the "ban" point is disingenuous.

The whole point of the "ban" is to prevent the disease from entering the country. If 50% of the world's population had a contagion and there were zero cases in the US, no one would say we should wait until there is a sufficient number of domestic cases before enacting restrictions on people coming in. If the threat is outside our borders, it is the number of people infected outside the US that is supposed to be informing the decision on limiting international travel.

Plus we have no idea how many cases or deaths from Covid-19 had occurred in the US up to that point because there was almost no testing back then. If only hundreds of tests had performed through January, the confirmed case and fatality numbers are not representative of the actual numbers.

He likes to point out that Pelosi was in SF Chinatown in late February encouraging people to visit as some kind of failure of foresight on her part, but there were ZERO confirmed cases of Covid-19 in San Francisco when she was there. Should his "number of cases" argument not apply in that situation? I guess not. He didn't seem to be worried about people's safety while holding MAGA rallies with large crowds in Phoenix, Colorado Springs, and Las Vegas in February.

The largest outbreak in this country, the New York metropolitan area, was caused by people coming from Europe - and Trump didn't restrict travel from there until after the WHO declared Covid-19 a pandemic. For someone that claims to know this was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic, he's made some really big mistakes.

The election campaign ads quoting Trump's own words are going to be unrelenting.

There are two well known critical counter-points to his argument and they are letting it go.

1. The virus doesn't care if the person carrying it is of Chinese nationality or American nationality, he only banned travel from Chinese nationals, travelling from China. That is NOT a closed border.
2. The strain running rampant in New York currently killing over a thousand people per day IS FROM EUROPE. It's a SEPARATE STRAIN, and it is traced to EUROPEAN countries. Not China.
