Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb; Widespread testing not until September

Ex-FDA chief says U.S. not likely to have broad-based coronavirus testing until September

WASHINGTON — Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Monday that the U.S. most likely won’t have broad-based coronavirus testing in place until September.

“We're not going to be there. We're not going to be there in May, we're not going to be there in June, hopefully we'll be there by September,” Gottlieb said in an interview on NBC’s “Today” show.

If we replaced Trump and Pence with Pelosi right now we'd have a testing regime that tells cities, counties, states what the amplitude and frequency and triggers are by end of may.

South Korea is in the 10 - 20 cases a day range while they go about doing what they want tracked by cell phones.

It was not reassuring. Gottlieb kept going on and on about how crucial testing is, but widespread testing won't be available for months. But let's just go ahead and end the restrictions now and hope that without testing we'll be okay. "Let's see what happens" isn't really a plan for public health.

What will testing prove? If I take a test today and it's negative what's to say I won't be infected tomorrow? Granted, I can't claim to be knowledgeable about these things, I"m just an IT guy.
