(47,584 posts)I think wide spread change is inevitable after this. Sometimes it takes a crisis that affects everyone to bring about the change that must happen if we are to survive as a species.

(25,111 posts)what patriotism means concerning The United States of America.
shithole, administration, cabinet, republican congresscritters and the actual "fake news" (murdoch, oans, hate radio, etc.), state legislators from governor, mayors, etc.
When the senate majority leaders refuses to bring to the table over 400 bills passed by the house, yet front and center pushing through unqualified right winger judges any means necessary. When the senate majority refuses to pass stimulus bill that actually help the working class and small businesses and hospitals. The first 450 billion small business loan went to the one %ers which was wiped out in the matter of weeks. senate majority refusal to fund additional SNAP, and much much more.
then mcturtle said "let the states go into bankrupt, especially the blue states". WTF. what happened to "United States" . . .
Deaths are climbing and republicans don't care. Money over lives.
Thank GOD for Democratic Governors and legislators. Thanks GOD for scientists, researches, doctors, nurses, first responders, employees from grocery stores, et al.

(6,100 posts)is by far the most comprehensive and hard hitting truth I have ever read about the state of this state we live in.
Everyone should read it and understand what has happened and where we are going, to a new emergence as a country or to hell in a failed state. And we MUST learn from this because if we don't we are condemned as a people and deserve all the bitterness and tragedy we have earned.

(51,678 posts)South Korea got their first case on Jan. 20, same day as us. South Korea lost only 240 people to date to the virus because they had a competent, able government who took it seriously, immediately mass producing tests as soon as the WHO made thectest available to the world on Jan. 17. Because they had readily available testing, they were able to do targeted quarantines and never had to shut their country down.
The death numbers tell how stark the difference is when you have competent leadership. South Korea has one of the lowest death rates in the world at 4.6 per 1 million population. Trump, on the other hand, lied that it was the flu and sat on his stubby orange hands for 2 months, resulting in a U.S. death total to date of 47,681, and one of the worst death rates in the world, at 145.7 per 1 million population. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/coronavirus/

(47,584 posts)is because Trump cares more about appearances than reality. He's running the country like The Apprentice, but he can't script real life or a pandemic. He believes that if he lies enough, he can alter reality, but unlike his brain dead base, the coronavirus doesn't care. It has its own agenda.
